  1. I thought that most of the entries are really great. What caught my attention was the animations. Building rising from the water, hurricanes blowing parts around the city, all is really great and beatiful, but where is the architecture in it????? The main objective is to show the architecture, or the emotion you would have been in it and most of the videos aren´t showing that. I´m really curious about what this prize will be an Architectural visualization or a computer graphics visualisation.
  2. How can I render in stripes (netrendering) and saving elements in Vray? When I try it only saves the elements from the first stripe and the final image. I tried usin DR in vray, but I have to send each image at a time, very time consuming. I wanted to send several images and send it overnight or the weekends, that´s why I still use backburner.
  3. I found the problem is in using Vray camera. Try using a standard Max camera or rendering the volume light in a separate render and compositing it in PS.
  4. Chris I bought your tutorial and it was really good, but you should ask the guys there to fix the download method. It took me a long time and a lot of tries to get it to download.
  5. I´m just posting from Vista 64 and I was trying to make max 9 work. Really it has been a pain in the ass to make it work, but I think mostly is because i´m not used to vista. I installed max 8 and got a lot of issues, only then I found out that even been log as administrator I had to right click and "run as administrator" to get a good intalation process. I read that the productivity booster released from Autodesk will cover some max 9 issues in Vista 64. I´m also waiting for better news to upgrade.
  6. Your lights are too bright, looks like something is wrong. Try changing your color mapping to higher values and lower the light multiplier so you can get less contrast.
  7. If you use "store direct illumination" you will have to increase the number of samples shot by this light, otherwise you will have great loss in detail.
  8. I don´t get why would I have 6 buckets if I only have two possible processors calculating it? The hyper threading tecnology let´s you use two operations at a time, so each processor can calculate two buckets at the time...2 processors 4 buckets. If you say u want 8 buckets and you only have 4 available, maybe (I´m not sure about it) it will give two to a single processor, so it will take two times more (so there´s no reason to do that). I don´t know how the processor will handle the extra buckets, but if there´s no possible resorce to calculate them, what I can be sure is that you will not gain from doing it. I´m using distributed rendering on 8 HT machines, realy wonderful, having 16 buckets at a time in your image. This is an interesting issue, I haven´t made a test to see what´s best, HT on or off. Any coments on the subject?
  9. Yep, the devil lies in the details.... I think if you want to make an image of an architecture like this (very clean) with no further details, u should make your lighting more dramatic. Maybe u could make a dusk light, or sunset. The background u´re using is not matching your lighting.
  10. I have a work around...well, in some cases. I unclick "visible to camera" in the object properties menu. If I have a wall blocking my way it usually works.
  11. We´ll I just have to say, if you have to look so hard into the details to know if it´s real or CG you´ve done a great job. Maybe someday I´ll send you guys something like that.
  12. FUCK, just got a PentiumD 950 and was thinking I was the bomb.... Well, got 06:38 Pentium D 950 3Gb RAM Will buy a Dual Core next time.
  13. I don´t know much about the program you´re using, you should check if it takes fulll advantage of the Hyper Threading capability on your processor. Sure if you upgrade your machine it will render faster, but try to set your scene so you maintain the minimum amount of effects and polys so your scenes render faster. Always a good tip, if you have two machines, set your scene in the old one and render it in the new one. If you get a faster machine, most probably your scenes are gonna get heavier.
  14. Thank´s for the reply Joske, what you suggested was exactly what I´m doing, but sometimes when there are more than one opening and he format in not square it takes a little more time to fix it. But it is really working, I just thought I was doing something wrong, it is a pitty that Max is not doing soft shadows in skylight. Thank´s anyway.
  15. Meshing in Max is at 5 cm (i´m working in centimeters) and in Lightscape is is at processing 1 (the lowest one). As I noticed Max is not giving good shadows in Skylight only. In this case is not the meshing neiter the background, really hoped you were right.
