1. Hi, I have this strange problem with chamferbox reflections. Even though the surface is flat the reflections are rounded and there is also some dirt in the corners. I attached two images. First is made with chamferboxes. Second is made with normal boxes and then edges are chamfered with editable poly. They look totally different!? I have had this problem for years now and I don´t know how to fix it. Please help!
2. Thanks again for the answers! I will give them a try.
3. Can somebody explain me what this "Clamp output" really does? I ask this because I rendered a Linear workflow 32bit EXR-image with Clamp output selected. I compared the clamped image and non-clamped in photoshop. I played around with exposure control and I saw no difference between the images. Only difference was that the clamped version didn´t have these white overexposed dots. I thought selecting "clamp output" turns the colors to 8bit mode, but when I checked what mode was on in photoshop it turned out to be 32bit still?
4. Thank you so much for a quick reply! So do I just select save as 16bit TIFF and clamp output? Do I have to change some other settings too? (to burn gamma to the image or something..)
5. Hi, I have used LWF for a short while and almost every scene I render I get these white spots with black outlines around bright areas. Using clamp output takes care of the spots, but I don´t want to use clamp because the main reason I am using LWF is to get better exposure control in post production. So what am I doing wrong?? and is there any solution to this problem or is it better to go back to regular way of doing things? Please help! I render with Vray 1.5 SP5. I use Vray frame buffer and save as EXR. I use normal cameras. Here are the setting I use:
6. I tried using "3ds max preset" in bottom of Render Setup window to save v-ray settings and that seems to work, which is nice. I wonder what is wrong with V-ray´s own preset system, because that one doesn´t work? Is anybody else having this problem?
7. Hi, I have tried to save vray presets, but when I load the presets nothing happens?? Has anybody else had this problem? I tried to do this on two different workstations, but problem remained. I use 3ds max design 2011 and I used these "official" instructions: http://vray.us/vray_documentation/vray_presets.shtml I followed the instructions and chose a few rollouts to save. After saving I see the new presets on the left column. When I choose a preset on the left column the right column is filled with roll-outs, even though I only selected few when I saved it? and when I press load nothing is changed. I tried closing the Render Setup window and reopening it, but that didn´t help either. Does anyone have an idea what this is about?
8. I have earlier rendered 420x250mm 300dpi with 3ds max Blowup rendering. The render turned out fine, but there was always some problem with the lighting. The lighting was NOT even, when I stitched the four separate images into one in photoshop. The problem appeared close the seams of the images. The images had slightly different light/shadow darkness in those areas. I always had to do lots of Clone stamping to get it right. I used these "official" instructions http://usa.autodesk.com/adsk/servlet/ps/dl/item?siteID=123112&id=5582404&linkID=9241177 What was i doing wrong? I used vray and I calculated global illumination for every individual image. Should I have calculated the global illuminations for the whole image first and then use that saved file in those four renderings?
9. Hi, My client wants a banner that is 6810 x 4480mm. Is it even possible to render this size image from 3ds max/v-ray? What DPI would be good enough?
10. I wrote down some tips for speeding up rendering of V-ray scene with opacity maps. If you have problem with vray opacity map rendering slow, then try these fixes: http://3d-visualisointi.blogspot.com/2010/02/tips-for-speeding-up-rendering-of-v-ray.html
11. Thank you everyone for the answers. I ended up using these setting for the rest of the print images that I rendered: - Size: A4 300dpi - Adaptive DMC: min 2,max 5 - IR: low,HSph.subdivs 45, Interp.samples 35 - LC: subdivs 1400, Interp.samples 4 - DMC Sampler: Adaptive amount 0.85, Min samples 8, Noise 0.005 The renders turned out fine. Render times were between 12-20 hours. I guess I could have tweaked the setting much more if I had had the time. Thanks again.
12. Thank you Sanmb for the tips. I tried them and the rendering time is now faster, but it still takes 20 hours to render. So I guess it still needs some tweaking. Any suggestions?
13. Thank you Sanmb for the links. The images I am trying to render are not ready yet and unfortunately I couldn´t show them for clients privacy reasons anyway. I have a 32bit OS with 4GB of memory. (which I am planning to upgrade soon as possible.) I am going to render interior images of large Banquet hall with lots of chairs and tables. These images are going to be A4 size with 300dpi. I have rendered these same images with web image quality earlier. At the time I used these settings: - Image sampler: Adaptive DMC min 4 max 6 - antialiasing: Catmull-rom - Color mapping: Enponential - Indirect illumination: primary-Irradiance map multiplier 1,0 secondary-Lightcache multiplier 0,9 - Irradiance map: High, HSph.80 Interp.70 - Lightcache: subdivs 1500 interp.samples 10 - DMC sampler: adaptive amount 0,85 - min samples 16 - noise 0,01 Settings for materials and lights: - Material reflection subdivs from 25-50 - Vray lights subdivs 40-60 Is it reasonable to use these same setting for print quality images? or is some setting unnecessary high or low?
14. My question is, what kind of setting do you professionals use when rendering A4 and A3 size print quality architectural renderings? Do you have some regular Irradiance map, light cache, anti-aliasing and other settings you prefer? This is not meant to be contest about who uses the highest values, but rather getting better idea what are the standard or preferred settings in this area. It´s probably good idea to mention what kind of computer you are using to put things in perspective. Thanks in advance for any input on this.
