  1. Interesting. I've just hit 60 years old! (f***, how did that happen?) and many of my age group have already retired, so it is something I do think about. I've worked freelance from a spare bedroom for over 30 years and made good money ...well, up until 2009 when the crash happened. What happened to me and may happen to others is that I'm now financially secure. I find interest in other things and my work no longer defines me. It means I no longer stress about being up with all the new technologies, study others' work, look to advance my career and also not worry if no work comes in. I'm very fortunate to be in this position, but I also see it as a privilege of having age (there has to be some benefit, surely!) I don't need to draw a line under my career, I can just carry on until it completely fades out. The only problem I have is renewing my software every year...I need to be sure there will be enough work coming in to justify it.
  2. This thread brought a smile to my face. It's my first visit to CGArchitect in several years having been a regular visitor before. I'm approaching 60 years of age and have been through at least four previous episodes of anxiety regarding the future of my career: 1. As a traditional perspective artists as digital came in 2. When cheap overseas CGIs flooded the market 3. When GI made the process seem easy 4. When CGI work went in-house You guys were part of 'the new generation' that made me anxious at the time and now you're perhaps in that same position. The ones that will last are the ones that evolve and adapt. Progress (and your clients) don't give a sh*t about your career or whether your work is superior in quality to someone else's, or whether it's 'unfair' that producing CGIs is so easy now -only you care about that Nothing is forever and the old must give way to the new (people and technology)

    Highlight

What setting do I need to adjust to get rid of the black halo around this sharp highlight?
  4. Thanks guys. Some good ones there
  5. Looking to buy some decent quality tree texture maps (with Alpha). Particularly looking for multi-stem silver birch type trees. Can anyone point me to some good sites?
  6. No-one's ever said that to me ;-)
  7. I like that. I shall use the following as a response when appropriate: " Guys, it's an architectural illustration, not an official Government document FFS!"
  8. Jeff I think the drop in membership originally was that the 'new generation' adapted to the digital world and found every benefit they could from sites like yours - why then pay £90 to join another group. Of course, we have many many digital illustrators in our membership now. Also, I think ptential members generally look for things that will benefit them personally and financially. The SAI is about promoting the profession as a whole not individuals. So, if they don't see tangible results for them, why pay an association £90?
  9. Sounds like the SAI to be honest, who do actually only accept 'good' work. You're right though, member numbers are low and have dropped generally over the last few years coinciding with t'internet.
  10. I think these look a little bit like the work of our friend on here - Tim Nelson.
  11. I was told to try removing the 'Windows Tablet' thingy, but I didn't have that as listed so took the second suggestion of removing the WV HID. That removed the problem and everything is working as normal in pen mode too.
  12. Thanks The answer for my situation was to remove the Wacom Virtual HID (or something). Not sure what that is or why it caused a problem...but it's fixed.
  13. Since installing Max Design 2013, my Wacom is doing something strange. When I press down and hold for a second with the pen I get an animated circle of red dots followed by a mouse icon with the right click panel flashing red! Also, when using PS it feels to have lag. have to restart system to get rid of it, but comes back again after Max has been launced. Anyone else with this?
  14. ...which is keeping us oldies on our toes :-) You're one of the young ones LOL
