1. Thanks for the reply Marc. It's been a year since I first posted this and have found my answer since then. Revit 2012 has implemented a solution to this and is found under the Visibility Graphics setting. It's a new area called "cut line styles". I have attached a screenshot of it. This is the answer I was looking for. Thanks again for the suggestion.
2. I have a stone pattern on a wall but this pattern can not change scale because the stones need to be a certain size. Here is the problem. At 1:100 the scale looks fine but at 1:50 the stones look half the size. Normally this would be accurate for hatches but surface patterns show things such as siding and stone at a particular size. I have attached images for reference. How can you lock the scale of a surface pattern so it does not change size when you change scale?
3. I just had this problem and simply checking Sub Pixel Mapping fixed it for me.
4. I do Revit to Max all the time. The cleanest way to import from Revit to Max is to forget about all the materials that Revit assigns. Don't use FBX since the geometry is very very sloppy and riddled with extra edges and triangulation. This makes it a nightmare to edit things in Max. What you do is go to a 3d view in Revit and then export it as CAD Format. You must be in a 3d view or it will export a 2d line drawing instead of a 3d model. The model that results from a CAD export vs an FBX is night and day. It's much cleaner and easier to edit. Since you are going to be applying Vray materials and renderings in Max all you really need is to bring in the geometry. Hope that helps.
5. When cutting a section in Revit the thickest line is always shown at the perimeter of the cut. I would like to have the thickest line follow the core instead of the perimeter of the section cut. I can't for the life of me figure it out. I do not want to resort to overriding the line thicknesses one at a time for each section because there are way too many sections. I would like to apply this globally for all sections.
6. This happens to me all the time. Quick note for Win7 and Vista. Must run Max as administrator for the settings to stick after the restart. Then you can run max normally. Works great.
7. Ok here is what I did. I detached all 5 faces of the cube and applied UVW Map and VrayDisplacementMod independently to each. I had to create a separate displacement map for each face. See below for the result.
8. Hey everyone. I've searched around for an answer to this but can't seem to find anything. Here it is. I have this simple cube furniture piece to model but it has this leaf imprint on it that I'm having a hard time achieving the effect. Its a little too deep for bump so I figured i have to do some sort of displace. Here is my dilemma. How do I assign seperate mapping coordinates for the leaf displacement as opposed to the wood for the box. I have mapping set for the wood but when I try to put another UVW map on top of the stack to orient the displacement it overrides the wood mapping. Is there a simpler way to do this or am I just missing something?

Word of advice

First I disabled automatic updates, antivirus, and all power saving features like sleep mode. Then all I could do was hit render again. It just finished this morning which took about 20hr to complete.

Word of advice

Please remember to disable Windows Automatic Update before a final render. You might wake up in the morning to find your computer has so thoughtfully restarted to install "important updates" and could care less that your render is due that today! Not that I'm bitter or anything.
11. Thank you Matthieu. I had indeed forgotten to check the "show in viewport" button for the bitmap. It was rendering black because I had to flip the normal for the plane. Finally I set the VrayLightMtl intensity to 2 and that did the trick. Thanks for the advice. It was a late night and my head was a little cloudy
12. Hey everyone. I'm having a little issue with a scene that I'm creating. Its an interior shot with a background of a sky outside the window. I've created a plane just outside the window with a VrayLightMtl and the image of the sky in the color slot. The Problem is that the it previews pure white, were I can't see the map nor adjust its position, and it renders black through the window. What you do you think is going on? I can't seem to figure it out. See screenshot. Thanks
13. I have this problem where sometimes I will open a file and all my xrefs are in totally different locations than where I left them. This also happens sometimes when importing new xrefs or creating proxies. Any ideas what's making this happen?

Having recently learned Vray I want to redo the scene and see how much easier, faster, etc it can be by using Vray. I will post results.
15. Just wanted to let everyone know that if you have always wanted to improve your skills and not have to deal with so much guess work then you should really consider CG School. I have taken several of their on site courses and there is nothing more valuable. The classes are taught by industry experts who explain in plain English how these tools work and when best to use them. I feel much more confident in achieving great results easily and being able to trouble shoot effectively. This is not an ad for CG School. This is my experience. Novel
