  1. Hello all. I have been away from rendering and animation for a good while now. But now have a new project that requires both, and I am running into trouble. I am using Autodesk VIZ 2006, yes its old but it works, with an AutoCAD model attached to it. I am trying to animate doors that need to open, and in the past, I have always made a dummy, then linked the parts of the door to it, set the dummy where I wanted the door to pivot from, and then set the pivot points in line with the time line, and the door parts moved with the dummy in the animation. Now, only the dummy moves...and I have spent the last hour trying to figure out why, read through the User Help index, and searched here...to no avail. Can anyone help, please, I would greatly appreciate it, and it would save my backside on this project. many thanks in advance.
  2. One of the first renderings I have done in quite some time, and since it will be used for some marketing, I thought I should get some feedback. Done in VIZ'06, any comments, or suggestions would be appreciated. TIA sorry for the wide image, overall size of the development dictated it for the overall view.
  3. I just gave that a go, and I don't have the option to "ungroup", it is not in bold, and I can't select that. I did find, that there was a separate material in my material editor, that was the same color as the primary car body material, and it is assigned to that piece. weird, yeah. I did find another car in the package that has the same issue. the solution was there, I just had to find it. thanks for the tip, I will remember that for the future.
  4. I have not been on here in ages, and have not been working in VIZ much either. But I recently bought a package of cars, and today went to use one and found that a few objects in the file are grouped together, and some of them are incorrectly grouped. I need to find out how to fix this problem, either by ungrouping them, or assigning a material just to one piece of the group. I am not familiar with how to do this in VIZ, any advice or help would be great. I am attaching a screenshot, to show the problem. There is one body panel of the car, is grouped with some other parts, and the one body panel is the original color, and I want to change it. I am just stuck, it is over my head, so I turned here for help. TIA.
  5. Hello all, I have been out of the rendering world for a while now, and am just getting started again. I feel like I have to learn everything new again. We purchased VIZ 2006 early this year, and I am just now getting around to using it. I am now having issues regarding mapping, bump maps, and lighting that I am not used to. All of my custom textures now map wrong, and the bump maps do not produce any texture, like they did when I was on older versions of VIZ. I also need to re-learn lighting, all of my materials are now very over exposed, when set up under the lighting system that I had to use before radiosity and all of the new lighting techniques. I can deal with that, but the bump maps not working proper, and the map scales are really driving me nuts. I am attaching a small clip of what I am working on, to show how everything appears so flat, and smooth, I can't get that to go away. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Many thanks in advance. I just realized, this probably needs to be in the VIZ section of the forum, my apologies. It can be moved if necessary.
  6. Looks good. The water looks better than it did before. I recognize all of those people, I just purchased them this morning. A little behind the times I know, I am just getting back into rendering. How do you like working with them?
  7. Just an update, I finished off the blacony shot, and worked out another. Any comments are greatly appreciated. Thanks.
  8. they are not real fast at rendering, but they look very nice once they are done. The full version has two copies of everything, one that is high poly count, and one that is about half as much. I use the lower poly count trees for anyhting far from the POV, and the high res stuff for up close. there is a wall under it, that is flared to match the column, but the overhang of the wall cap hides it. It was the only way to make the column capital line up porperly with the wall above. thanks for the comments all. it is very appreciated.
  9. Just a WIP update from today, rendered very small.
  10. AutoCAD solids, all of my work, minus some entourage is done with solids. Vb Visual, nice stuff, low poly count, but it takes a little to get used to working with them. http://vbvisual.com/db/index.php?rubrik=pflanzen&volume=3&software=2&layout=vbvisual I am still working on this one, and will post another tomorrow.
  11. Hello all, I have been out of the rendering world for a while now, no work going on. But I have been working on this little detail for a day or two now, just wanted to get some feedback. It is not close to done yet, but should be by the end of Monday. Thanks in advance.
  12. Thanks STRAT, I will try it out today. I may try VRAY again, if someone else has gotten it to work, then it might have just been an O.E.
  13. ^^ Vrayfree owuld not work right, I tried it, and it had my computer all screwed up for a day. I will just wait, I push every rendering we do.
  14. Thanks for the comments, but there are no PRC's in this scene. the cars are 3d models, as are the plants. The trees are excluded from my light dome, becuase they get washed out, that may be causing some of the confusion. Is there a way to soften the shadows in VIZ 3i, I know that the newer releases have the ability to blur shadows, but can it be done in VIZ, or do I need to do it post process? And yes STRAT, I too am crying out for radiosity, but I have to work with what I am given, VIZ 3i. One of these days they will buckle and let me upgrade. But since rendering is not our primary business, and our clients seem to love the results, I am fighting a loosing battle. Thanks for the feedback.
  15. The TV is fine turned off, but the screen needs to have a little more life to it, some highlights and faint reflections. That and the floor, and I am not sure how much more "realistic" you can get. This looks very good to me, certainly much better than I can produce.
