    Faster render?

I design event stages & stuff & tend to use a lot of lights & reflective materials. Also the venues are sometimes huge so that means lots of light. How can I improve my render time? p.s. I use max 2009 & vray on a 64 bit machine. The IT guy told me that if I used max 2011/13 my render time would improve because they have been made for 64 bits. Is this true?
  2. I had to but my question is why is this happening in the office PC but not at home
  3. Nope, already tried that............the only thing that worked a bit was when I changed the bitmat filter from pyramidal to none in maps & saved in tiff. But I don't have to do this on my home pc.
  4. I have been working on a new pc for the last month at work & all the renders after saving (jpeg) come out blurred. But when I do it with the same settings at home it comes out absolutely crisp. Can anybody tell me what the problem is? FYI my work pc is 64 bit,Max 2009 & vray but my home pc is 32 bit, Max design 2009 & vray.
  5. Oh wow the links are great. Thanks so much Ismael.
  6. Thanks so much for the help Aubrey, I am getting to it.
  7. Thank you so much Ismael. I'll just go through the whole lot & let you know.
  8. Thank you Aubrey.......they are kinda prominent but again not too much. What I tried at first is texturing boxes with pictures of stacks of books & using a png for opacity. It looked nice but something looked off. I am uploading some very rough snapshots of the scene. Currently I just have colored boxes in place of the books. Its going to be a short animation & I later plan to use moblur & DOF when compositing. Please tell me what you think would be the best way to go about this.
  9. Thank you John. Unfortunately my Version of Max is just one release too old for it.
  10. Hi Ive got to make a library scene that is to be animated. What I want to do to simulate the books in it is by using boxes that have a map of a stack of books on them. Problem is somehow I am not being able to pull this off (only the spines of the books which are the maps look nice the rest of the box don't look like anything). Please does anybody have any ideas how I should go about this?
  11. Thank you Meher but I broke the rules & ultimately ended up rendering the IR & lightcache for each frame of the animation with the main render... at least the quality was good . I don't know if it was stupid or not but I compressed the animation (200 keyframes to 8) to compensate for it & speed up the render & now I ll try to stretch it out while compositing & maybe add some fx. Its a gamble, lets see what happens .
  12. I did it already but it doesn't look nice. I guess its back to the drawing board again. Thank you for the help.
  13. I am using Vray for rendering a very short animation. Problem is the light cache map & IR map I saved for it is for a longer duration but same camera animation. Is it going to be alright if I render or should I bake a new pair of maps?
  14. If I have say 8 tubes do I simulate that with 8 (instanced) vray lights then? That didnt really look pretty the last couple of times I did it? What would you suggest?
  15. Hello everyone Can anybody help me with these issues:confused:? 1. Suppose a scene has a lot of small complicated geometry like lots of cubicles in an office with lots of office stuff in each cubicle. How should I keep the rendering time low & the light calculations minimal esp if it was to be animated? Would Vrproxies help do you think? 2. Lots of vray lights simulating fluorescent tube lights vs vray light material applied to each tube- which would be more efficient render speed wise?
