  1. Jeff, I know this was a while ago, but were ever able to figure out what happened? It may help others in this area if you found a solution. Thanks! Adam
  2. They were saying that they were getting better results with 3D using that lens when they were filming the movie. I also met Ed Catmull in the hallway. Couldn't believe it! We were actually in the hallway standing against the wall next to each other. Someone walked up to him and gave him a CD (which I'm sure he tossed later). But, then I realized "Holy Smokes!" I've been standing next to him for 5 minutes!!!!! Then I started talking to him and he was very generous with his time. He was going to give a talk and we were waiting for the previous session to end. I asked him one VERY IMPORTANT QUESTION!!!! What set Pixar apart from the early 80's computer groups like Triple-I and MAGI since they failed in the long run. He had one answer "STEVE JOBS". If it wasn't for his financial backing then they would have tanked. He said Pixar was such a struggle at the beginning. Even John Lasseter was going to leave he said. But, he had to talk him out of it.
  3. On July 27, 2010 I had an extremely unique opportunity to ask Joseph Kosinski some questions at Siggraph in Los Angeles. Tron: Legacy was not even out yet. It was awesome talking to the director of Tron: Legacy. He has a degree in Architecture and I complimented him on his transition to Film. If you watch his films like Tron and Oblivion you can see still that Architecture plays an enormous role in his films...thought I'd share my notes after I spoke with him... I can decipher if it's hard to read....some people have been telling me they can't read it...
  4. Well, what I ended up doing was just rendering without the "Glow" effect. I just isolated the object I wanted to glow. Rendered it by itself with an alpha channel and just layered it in Photoshop and did it in there. Worked just fine this way...
  5. I have no idea where it could be....try and download the script mmregions http://www.scriptspot.com/3ds-max/scripts/mmregions You never know...it might appear....
  6. A small set of plans can be complex and overwhelming....a large set of plans can be simple and easy to read. It all depends on the design. Is it critical to read a set of plans? Extremely critical. But, we can already picture things in our head as we're modeling and designing. So, it's not a difficult thing to do. Even as a trained Architect, I still get plans once in awhile that are difficult to process and picture in my head. It all depends on the project. Like others have said already, there's the table of contents....go to the floor plan, get a sense of the space, look at the "keys" on the floor plan to see what sheets the sections, elevations and roof plan are on, then go those sheets. There will be detail keys on those sheets and you can zoom in even more to get more info on the details
  7. Depending on the situation I use both. In this situation I'm using the Max Render Window because I have a "glow" effect I need for a light fixture.
  8. I don't think I ever had this problem before and I just can't think of how to fix this issue... Sometimes I region render multiple areas that I fix in the model. Well, once I render a region, I'll render another region and another. The previous region renders always stay there and I kind of build up the render layer by layer. Well, for some reason it will only region render two times while saving the previous renders. Once I render a third time, the render window resets and it all turns black and will region render the next selection. I have no idea why this is happening... I've switched to the vray frame buffer for now and I can region render no problem. It does not reset the window. Any ideas? Thanks
  9. I haven't read all the replies, but you should send a bill to him even if years have gone buy. I was out *,000.00 of dollars on one job going back to 2009. By the end of 2013, I was repaid 100%. It took many years for my client to pay me back because they got hit hard as well. However, if your client is a good one, they will repay you. Otherwise you could report them to the BBB....by the way, that's always been a great threat. Reporting to the Better Business Bureau. Not that I've done that ever. I have not. I just know 2 people in the Arch industry that have done just that and it worked to get their clients attention. So, back to the issue...I think if you setup some sort of payment plan that would be great. You got hit also as well as your client. I'm sure he's surviving to some capacity. Send the bill first as an update with the note that this many years have gone by and see if you get a reply. If not, make the phone call or a letter/email update suggesting that a payment plan could be an option with monthly or quarterly payments for the bill total. I think that is highly reasonable. Adam
  10. If you don't mind us asking....what is the purpose for? Do they want flexibility to manipulate the image themselves?
  11. Complaints with Revit come from all areas of design and construction. I work in Visualization, but I am also involved in production with Revit on many of our projects. You have to give the production team some slack. They don't see it the we "need" to see it. They are pure production and trying to meet a deadline. Each project has been different and from the production point of view it can be plagued with problems...especially when people get involved who do not use Revit regularly. Even on the projects I work on, I can't get to everything. We're all tackling different aspects of the project to get things done. So, the QC for 3DS Max suffers. I always have to add additional modeling anyway....so it's something I am accepting and dealing with. I try to get my two cents across as much as I can when working on a project. I don't really "link" the revit file, but I do what others have suggested though. I bring in certain categories of the model so that the 3DS Max file does not get so huge. It's a work in progress for me anyway... In any case, I absolutely think Revit is an amazing program. It's actually more flexible than people realize and the pro's certainly outweigh any con's. It's not perfect, but it sure beats Autocad in terms of production. Just my "two cents"! Adam
  12. Excellent! The grid is staying white now.....thanks!
  13. ***UPDATE*** Okay, I did it!!!! Under the Customize User Interface, change the viewport background color to R-1, G-1, B-1. I also changed the Viewport Gradient Bottom and Top to this setting as well. I right click the "wireframe, shade, etc." settings and changed my background to "solid color" and I'm getting a white selection window instead of black. My gridlines are also set to "white" I saved the setting and closed out of Max. Here's where I get a bug issue. Even though I saved the interface setting, when Max reopens, the gridlines are mainly white, but the "main" grid lines revert to black. However, the selection window is still white. Adam
  14. I also have the same issue....I believe the solution was changing the vieweport background color to near black, or something. I got it to work at one point, but now it's not. But,from what I read there is no way to change it. You just have to find a background color that will inverse the selection box line. Trial and error kind of thing. It will change on it's own if the color is correct... Also, I want a "black" background. I'm used to that way of working and I can't save my interface. Whenever I save with black background and white gridlines, I can save it. But, 3DS Max 2014 does not remember and it get all whacked out when I open it. I dunno....
