  1. if you can, go for the "K" versions of i7. They are unlocked, then you can Overclock with ease. A i72600K can run @ 4.5Ghz or even more with few Bios adjustements. pretty faster than the stock frequency. If you plan to do that, go for a strong cooler (noctua NH-D14 or something like that)
  2. hello, i would suggest Peter Guthrie's ressources (HDRIs) and tutos. http://www.peterguthrie.net/blog/2010/02/hdri-sky-lighting-tutorial/ http://www.peterguthrie.net/blog/2010/03/hdri-skies-shop/
  3. i would say that in the latests builds of Vray there's not so much rendertime difference between 2d and 3d disp. i've read somewhere that 3d is the way to go as it have been improved a lot in latest builds. note that the Vraydispmodifier, in 3d mode, have pretty the same settings than the global displace settings in vray (via map). if you've several materials on your object (multi or fusion) and want the displace only on one of them, then you can't use the modifier, as it impacts the whole object. If you use the map, you'll be able to apply displace on only one material of the object. The modifier allows you, too, to have different displace settings in your scene. If Using maps, they will all use then same global displace settings. Hope it helps !
  4. can be an reflective GI or raytrace material somewhere... can you try a material override with a simple Vray mat to see if it's material related or other problem ?
  5. hi ! would you please try my free FlyWizard ? It's free and can help you to make your anim. In revenge, i'm interested by your feedback. It's included into the LITE (free) version of SolidRocks (link in signature).
  6. Looks like a LC Filter problem. Be sure your LC is in "nearest" filter mode.
  7. yes, 1 LC render in flythrough mode, wich should be blurry as it contains all frames in one go. Then an irrmap every 5-10 frames, depends of the speed of your camera. About "use camera path" : i'va made several tests, and finally always check it OFF !! This feature is usefull ONLY for a little anim and if your camera moves a little bit. In all other cases (real flythrough), you may UNCHECK it !
  8. that's a method, but you'll need to manage shadows with some matte objects. you can also use the sphere apparatus gizmo see : http://www.spot3d.com/vray/help/200R1/tutorials_anim.htm tip : have a look to this free tool : http://www.scriptspot.com/3ds-max/scripts/rendermask it can help.
  9. +1 ! Test you hrd on a simple sphere... just to see. Another thing : perhaps you've things to do with smoothing groups...?
  10. you can try the VrayOverride material with a light color, at least on floor and ceiling to help light propagation and by the way control the color bleeding for more info, see http://www.spot3d.com/vray/help/150SP1/vray_overridemtl.htm some examples : (especially example3) : http://www.spot3d.com/vray/help/150SP1/examples_vray_overridemtl.htm hope it helps !
  11. for the second part (moving sun) you need to make a frame by frame Gi calculation... but perhaps you can start your second rendering to frame -30 to 180 to have an extra 1 second video wich can be faded with the first clip ? perhaps like this you can have decent transition without having to re-render the whole things..
  12. hey bestee, Thanks ! better than a huge discuss i'm interested by this test, just to see if it performs well in this case...
  13. or a really bad AA and/or noise thr value >= 0.1
  14. take a look at vray log, but when render freezes on Lc prefiltering, that because of sending irradiance map files on all slaves... it's a pain, but you can deploy the irrmap files manually on each slaves via a sync folder program. Like this your render won't freeze at render time, due to a network bandwith overload
