  1. Hi there everyone, Jason here, one of the organizers of the D2 Conference in Vienna. I am a longtime CGarchitect member, but have not been active in the forums for some time. About a week ago, I came across a post in the forum related to 2019 conferences and noticed there was some discussion about the D2 there as well. The D2 is taking place this year on August 23rd and 24th. The day before, on August 22nd, there will be some limited workshops as well as our traditional opening party, which will most like consist of a modeling battle or something similar. I thought I would start this post for anyone to ask questions or give feedback about the D2, so fire away! I will also drop information here from time to time as we get closer to the main event. Look forward to hear from all of you and hope to see you in Vienna in August. Jason
  2. I am here in Austria and can add a few to this list. http://www.oln.at http://www.isocrom.com http://www.rococoon.com http://www.sonaar.at
  3. As one of the organizers of the d2 Conference in Vienna, I have to agree with Jeff that it is the best. By the way, Jeff, thanks for the kind words. We could not have built it up to what it is today without help from people like you! I know that it seems like a lot of money, but what you get out of conferences like these is much more than just a learning extra skills. You get to meet people in the industry and hear their stories. I can guarantee you will leave with a new network of people who can help you out in the future in ways you would not have thought about. Interestingly enough, our most represented country last year was the U.K. We also have many companies using it as a team trip, bringing 5, 10, or even more from their offices. Plus, we start you off with some free beer, and there is a bar in the venue.
  4. Hi Joe, There is an upcoming architectural visualization event in Vienna from 13-14 September 2014. There will be many great speakers including Neoscape, Beauty and the Bit, Thomas Dubois, Factory Fifteen, Pixelflakes, Luxigon, and more. Cgarchitect is the official media sponsor so you have probably seen the ads popping up around the site. There will be food and drink provided and you will have a chance to mingle with a lot of great cg artists. It is going to be a great event......and I'm not just saying that because I am one of the organizers! Check it out: vienna.d2conferences.com
  5. Thanks for that link to Vyonyx, Valero. All of my visualizations are heavily Photoshopped, and it is interesting to see the workflow of others as well as some of their techniques. As to joeykeys original post, where you render it is almost moot. As everyone else stated, these are a result of great Photoshop work. Check out the short video of the steps on Philipp Schaerer's website. He does all of Herzog & de Meuron's visualizations. He is a master. Other studios producing work which I love to reference are Luxigon and Labtop.
  6. Good looking libraries you have there. It states on your website that you possess a signed release from all pictured subjects. Even the people shot from behind? Must have been grueling work. Were they also paid? It is a good idea nonetheless. Keeps your customers out of trouble down the road.
  7. Unless the woman on the chair is supposed to be 8 feet tall, I think you should make her a bit smaller. Another small critique is that it took me a moment to realize that the roof isn't sitting directly on the front wall, but further back at a high level. Your camera angle is creating this confusion, I believe.
  8. Great idea, Steve. ps. Unfortunately, you have two errors in "unfortunately" on your thief page.
  9. if you are talking about those deep-fried onion enhanced cornmeal concoctions, your are making me homesick. i need to get back home to the south and get some proper food.
  10. rhino is a great program for precision modelling and the learning curve isn't too steep. you also have the option of vray for rhino, but i cannot recommend it since i have never used it. i usually export to cinema 4d for texturing/rendering.
  11. i think you have captured the rustic feeling here. i like your wood texture for the columns and beams. for me the stone texture seems to have an reflection of a point light right in the middle which is not really how this material would behave. also, the wood panelling that is applied only to the underside of the ceiling in the middle of the image as well as further in the background has a bad transition detail. the transition from wood to plaster would usually have some sort of wood fascia strip most likely. here we are seeing the edge thickness of the panels, but perhaps this is a question of the architect's details and not your rendering.
  12. you modelled the cars? speaking of the cars....they are extremely distracting. image 4 is the best, and i think it is because there are no cars. as anirban said, your stone texture needs work. the tiling is horrendous and it is way too flat. such a stone wall would never have such sharp edges.
