  1. Heads up: Miauu released his Link Manager- max plugin for pain-free importing, combining by material and updating your skp models in 3ds Max (without need to re-apply materials and modifiers). This is HUGE. If you are an Archviz artist modeling in SU and rendering in Max- I highly recommend this rock solid script- please support author in this difficult times; the price is symbolic. http://www.scriptspot.com/3ds-max/scripts/miauus-manage-links
  2. Don't leave Max default as is! Just 1.follow Neil Blevinse gamma setup 2. output to exr (via free proexr Phsop plugun) 3. Edit .in file (input/output gamma). See P.Guthier tips 4. Apply S-curve in vray frame buffer
  3. My $0.02: Use this: http://www.avizstudio.com/tools/a2dimage/ -pro version (cheap as peanuts) with 3D shadows will ease your pain greatly. and of course, bitmaps should be carefully matched (lighting, clothes, perspective etc.) your project.
  4. great news, many thanks! ..but Max versions must be identical, right?
  5. Would it be possible to add a new-coming PC (based on Win 10) to existing Max 2017 Win 7 render farm? Thanks in advance.
  6. And how many Secondary BF Suubdivs in your opinion are enough for good quality 12MP still? 36?
  7. There's no need in extra VraySun. Just open exr file in Photoshop, steal the color value in the center of the sun but pump up the value to +6-11 stops; then make one touch of round brush with say 90% softness in the center of the sun (to find it, you should lower the exposure`display slider). Save and reload,- now you've got perfect shadows.
  8. Hmm.. What exactly is unfriendly? Memory consumption, quality?
  9. I realized that using the Subject means up to 30-40% time loss. Do you use it by default? Or only when some bold issues are seen? Thanks in advance
  10. answering original question: cut the desirable fragment from your hdri file and put it as 'face me' component (vertical plane) behind your object ( don't be shy to use move\scale). @Corey: Correct me if I'm wrong, but in 3DS Max you can't take say some wrong scaled car, measure its wheel (for instance say it's 90km) and say I want the whole get scaled so the wheel would become 60cm. In Sketchup it's a 2-click operation
  11. increase the sun 's turbidity (20-30?) and neutralize it with camera white balance.
  12. I render exclusively AA off with Good, Very Good (in SolidRocks terms) settings at ~4000pix width. SolidRocks set Min\max values at 1\5 I render heavy scenes within ~2 hours, which I would prefer leave untouched. But it appears that I have to inflate Min value up to 3 to get nice masks, which adds 25-30% percent to render times).
  13. thanks for input. gone digging in that direction )
