  1. Great images on your site - well done! Look forward to seeing your website evolve
  2. The sky is definitely not falling and there'll always be room for high quality 3D. In Melbourne we have companies charging upwards of $4k per image and they're busier than ever. And definitely agree with point #3 above - our industry is evolving constantly with new technology coming in and once its proven to be applicable to the marketing for property developments, property developers are keen to utilise it - architects aren't going to be doing VR inhouse any time soon. just my 2c worth.
  3. Hi Fredrik, We have experimented in having our clients sent to a questionnaire that they have to fill out. You can see the questions (and borrow them if you like) here: http://www.eaglevision.com.au/3d-works/ But what we have found is that most often that questionnaire acts as a barrier and most prospective clients don't bother filling it out unless they are really detailed and understand absolutely what kind of imagery they would like. The other side of it is that it actually makes us look bad that we have to ask all these questions and we should actually do our own research and be the ones acting as the expert and recommending what the clients should have. (Needless to say - we pretty much don't use that questionnaire form in 99% of cases). Ultimately they are coming to us and paying us money to be a consultant rather than an order taker who just presses buttons on the computer. Just my 2c worth.
  4. Hi all, Not sure if its the right area to post it in - but one of our staff is travelling to Japan in the next couple of weeks and it would be great to connect with a 3D company there and share knowledge. Would love to hear about which companies operate from Tokyo or Kyoto and if you have any contacts there? Thanks in advance, Stan.
  5. feel free to add us from Melbourne, Australia too: Eagle Vision - http://www.eaglevision.com.au There are a number of others missing from the Aussie list notably: floodslicer.com.au ivolve.com.au scharp.com.au Cheers,
  6. then its a really important lesson to learn at the outset and not repeat the same mistake again and again. if they have vague specifications - stop work until those specifications are finalised. worst thing we can do is render out an image and then the client has a design change and we have to go back to the start.
  7. Hi there, It's only my 2c worth - but we've broken down most of the process into lots of milestones. The timeframe of 3 renders in 5 days is tight, but not impossible, however did you ever ask based on the previous experience if there is any room in the timeframe? Assuming that clients know what they want with vague specifications at the outset is very dangerous Most of the time - they have an idea of what they'd like, but complete lack of concern for your (and our) time and effort investment in the process and what it takes. I wouldn't necessarily have passed on the client - just would be a lot tighter with locking them into a process if that is possible.
  8. Thanks Scott for the reply. I've tried going back to my university dean - but he's been pretty much impossible to get through and this after I bumped into him elsewhere and he was very welcoming and saying to drop past. So not sure the next steps on that - but I might just have to walk in on him The university employment placement office is a great idea - I'll check these ones out through LinkedIn perhaps. Thanks again,
  9. Hi all, We're at the stage now that it would be great to have some more staff inhouse that we could mentor from ground up. Does anyone have experience with connecting with universities and attracting either graduates or those still going through their courses? Also what about an induction program - any tips on that? Thanks in advance
  10. Hi Miroslav, I think you should try to bring in your specialist experience into what you can offer for the arch vis clients looking to do what you already know. The market in Australia for animations/tv commercials for projects is pretty small - mostly the clients want stills - so if you can demonstrate a great portfolio and educate your prospective clients on why your work is going to get them better results - they'll give you a try. Good luck,
  11. +1 to Juraj too ... I too believe it will never happen - we as specialists must always continue to improve as the software improves and be consciously thinking of what innovations we can bring to the marketplace as the software and hardware gets better. Change is the only constant in this world
  12. Hi Ken, With all due respect to Scott - whilst taking on other people's advice - you should continue getting out there and marketing your services. There are always architects who are still doing 2D Cad and would love for someone to help them out to get it to 3D. That's how we started a while ago - and have iterated many many times until our work got to a higher standard. I would also recommend removing some of the older work from your website which isn't up to par as your standard improves. Good luck and keep going,
  13. In Australia - once the building has working drawings - typically that's when the builders take over and do what needs to be done on site. So no as-built drawings are done post construction.
  14. I think this is a purely personal choice - I know of a couple of architects who worked in companies, established relationships and then went freelance because they wanted lifestyle changes (move to a different city, but maintain a slightly reduced income). For my business - I started off with a good network and then progressed this to employing freelancers on a need basis. But as a lot of the guys above have said - make sure you can deliver with a good portfolio and prompt communication. Good luck in your decision making
  15. Hi Jonathan, Thank you for your detailed input - I'll check out Agisoft - as we may need the higher resolution for this particular model. Is there any good tutorials that you have found for 123D or was it all just trial and error?
