  1. perfect - thanks! edit: new problem - trails seem to have stuttering see attached also noticed the selected frame seems to render the light source without the blur, any ideas how to eliminate this? thanks again
  2. Couldn't find anything in the forums so am posting but if you have a link to a similar thread it would be helpful - thanks. I've been experimenting with shutter speed and motion blur to generate light trails from moving objects (cars). Unfortunately not got the result I was hoping for. Attached renders are from a test scene with vray lights linked to a moving object on a path constraint to a circle. The object goes round 10 times over 1000frames. I expected there to be circular trails generated but I only get straight lines - can anyone enlighten me on why? (excuse the pun) Thanks!
  3. Looking for assistance on an animation I can't seem to resolve the errors I'm having. I've attached a gif which shows the trouble if this doesnt work theres also a still attached. I'm using prepass ir calculation with & it generates these black blocks of geometry. I've checked & replaced the geometry with the same trouble, renders are fine on a still shot. I can render with brute force without this trouble but with own set of troubles inc heavy render times. Any thoughts very welcome!-Thanks
  4. I'm a brit, I live in London. I don't think that at all. I think its inspiring to see people breaking the mould, seems like a slight nutter but pretty cool all the same, no harm intended no harm done. Makes you wonder if all the rules and regs are really so necessary Thanks for the post!
  5. Looks pretty good, just what i'm looking for ta
  6. Hello, This isn't really a max specific question, not sure where else to put it. anyway.. I wonder if anyone knows of a resource to find 3d models of street furniture, ideally from manufacturers. Things like rubbish bins, park benches, bollards, shelters etc.. I know there are places to get interior product furniture like this http://www.designconnected.com/catalog/manufacturers_3d_pages/official+Manufacturers+Free+3D+Models but I don't know for exterior streetscape, any ideas? Thanks a bunch
  7. Thanks John, I should've said based on the camera distance so it could be animated or vary from view to view. Do these suggestions work based on the camera z distance?
  8. Hello, I'm working on some tests for vegetation (so not urgent!) I just wondered if anyone knows if it is possible to use a distance blend on objects? What I was thinking is if you had proxies in the foreground and basic planar trees in the baskground. In the same way as you can with a material blend it from a detail foreground to a blurry distant shot, is it possible to render only proxies at say 50m and planar beyond that? Thanks in advance! Simon
  9. thanks for the replies, I'm looking into it. Does xfrog work with max, I found some threads saying it was discontinued?
  10. Hello, I've been looking at onyx as an alternative to rpcs, we use these at the moment & I gotta admit I'm not a great fan. Trouble is they have a pretty extensive library, (I work at a landscape architect's so tree variety is pretty important) - to pursuade my seniors I need an alternative which has a good library too. So my question, onyx has a pretty good base library but do they have any extended libraries? edit: example we have a project which uses sweetgum trees (Liquidambar styraciflua) which so how would I get a template for this or would I need to model it? Many thanks, Simon
  11. hmm, yeah maybe i will, but I better wait till I get home first I don't know if it'd go down too well at work. Cheers Dave
  12. any version, I was looking at the trial to see how it works, but seems you need the download manager first and the adobe site is so confusing i just go round in circles
  13. I'm going mad, I can't figure out how to download the trial of the program- I need the download manager but I can't workout where to download that from and all the adobe forums are confusing as hell. Can someone please help me here?
  14. ok, but note these are only to show the process, no finished images. the circled bits relate to - cars-group making track easily applyable by object- make sure the group is rendered by object or it won't work visibility track applied by dope sheet under graph editors, select the object; cars, then menu; tracks-visibility tracks-> add i hope this helps [sidenote: I really need to get one of those tablet pen thingys]
  15. well I worked out that using track view (dope sheet) visibility track worked. - i'm new to it but it does the trick- So a key at frame 0 fully visible, a key at 200 visible,201 invisible, 900 invisible. and object properties objects set to by object. It worked best with scanline although I'm working with mr so will continue to experiment. so what happens is for the first 200 frames the rpcs are prepared + rendered, and then the rest they are unrenderable so not rendered. Will post more results as I find out
