1. The specifics and laws on this topic will obviously vary country to country, but the way I see it working is quite simple. There is nothing stopping you from photographing people in a public place and using their image for non-commercial purposes without consent. The changing factor is when their image IS specificaly used for commercial purposes on any scale...you need signed permission from each person. I highly doubt they would have grounds to sue (given an architectural render is not exactly going into major circulation) but you would be forced to remove them from the image and obviously remove any images being displayed to the public. To on-sell their image as stock for the purpose of using in renders etc..... would most certainly get you sued.
2. You could always use the 'exclude' button option in the lights modify panel - shadows section. Exclude everything in the list from shadow & illumination, except for the object you want - set that to exclude from illumination only.
3. How different is your "almost identical" on the machines? different processors have the potential to produce slightly different results. On occassion I see slightly different buckets while using DBR, but that is normaly corrected by running all the latest updates, patches, drivers etc..
4. Composition plays a very important role in creating an image. The first thing I thought when I saw your image was I don't know what I should be looking at. It's too busy and I'm being distracted by all the different areas. Overall it has some nice natural ambient lighting but without any obvious direct light it appears a bit flat, but if you're new to this it's a really good start. Oh yeah, the 3d person is awful.
5. A problem I saw consistently when importing from Revit into Max2012 was conversion/scaling issues that caused the exact same problem. Althout the models themselves were physicaly at the correct scale, if you select an object and have a look at its properties...what does it say? I frequently had objects as an example: a 900x900x16000 column had dimensions in the properties as 0.03x0.03x0.4. If I applied a reset xform and converted back to edit poly again, the objects dimmesnions would show correct and the viewport issues would go away.
6. How big is the hdri file you are trying to load into your viewport?
7. Sorry for the VERY late reply. I didn't even know you'd posted to this. Yep, exactly what I needed. Thanks for that.
8. Not too many reply on the intro threads, but welcome Mark. With your background it sounds like quite a few will draw inspiration from you too.
9. A master plan is created the same way you create any 3D scene. Is it a single project on a single site, is it a 10 mile radius with hundreds of buildings, roads, highways, parks, etc... They can be simple or they can be extremely complex and detailed. It can be a single file, it could be dozens of xref files. You need to be a little more specific in what you want to achieve, so members can help you with better information.
10. The problem could be errors in the model or a texture map causing the renderer to crash....and that's only 2 of MANY possible causes. enable, save and check the log files from max and you will be closer to solving the problem.
11. There's nothing special about these. I use adobe illustrator, or indesign. Keep in mind, floor plans are better created and saved as vector files that can be scaled up or down without any loss of clarity. Using illustrator and saving to PDF is hard to beat.
12. Yes, I had the same issues with 2012. If you have your task manager open you'll also notice all those windows show up in the applications tab as 'not responding', and it will cycle through them all. Not sure why? I'm using dual xeon 6C processors with 24GB RAM, performance specs not the issue. I've had the tech's at 2 seperate companies review my system and log files and neither could find a single fault. Since my upgrade to 2013 all the problems I had with 2012 (there were many!) are all gone.
13. I'd prob. attack it starting with individual splines and a combination of modifiers like shell/taper/twist/scale etc.. It will give you more control and flexability to begin with compared to using poly modelling on a piece like this.
14. Cool. Thought I'd seen the scene before. Loved your last image and this new one is another great piece of work. Well done!! Look forward to seeing some more from you. Oh, and yeah, it's a 2010 Hayabusa.
15. Have you posted before from a different view? Scene looks familiar. I'm on a few motorcycle forums so might be confusing it with a photo I've seen, but anyway Great render!!!!!! edit: Thought I'd drop this pic in as it's a similar kind of scene. This is my monster in the Pitt Garage at the Phillip Island Circuit from a recent track day I did.
