  1. I run 3 monitors. One Dell 27 in the center and a Dell 24 on either side. Personally I have no issues with neck pain. If you have issues turning your head a few degrees in either direction to glance at reference material or read an email etc... then you probably have preexisting neck issues. I've never had or used a curved monitor so can't comment on how they compare. Martin
  2. I've read the odd post about the Wacom Cintiq but wanted see if anyone was using one in 3ds Max. I've got an Intuos I use for photoshop which helped significantly with my rsi but I'm now thinking about a Cintiq and wanted to know if people have had much success using it in 3D. I did struggle a bit with the Intuos in Max but thought modeling on the screen (Cintiq) might be easier that using the Intuos in 3D. 70% of my day is 3D 30% Photoshop Martin
  3. Any will be fine. One card can run the display and the other used for RT or both for RT but that will slow the display response significantly.
  4. Yes they all match as expected. I was never a big fan of the surround mode, id did a few strange things with multiple programs open. The new setup is much better. Least I could re-heat my coffee without leaving the room......
  5. I upgraded to 17 a few months ago and have a few issues. - After shutting max down I get a crash error, no harm to the file. - Sometimes I lose the ability to zoom in a maximized view port and have to go to another view port before returning and then I can zoom again. - I used to be able to use edit mesh on a group but now I can't. Not sure if that a 17 issue or not. - If I send a file to backburner and I have another max session open it crashes. If I close the other session it works fine.
  6. The only way I could calibrate my 3 monitors was to turn off the "Surround" mode on the GTX980. It took a few goes but finally got the right combination of 1 monitor plugged into the GTX580 and 2 plugged into the GTX980. If you don't get the right combination of DVI and DP ports then it doesn't seem to work. You also need to get one card working first with the 2 monitors before trying to connect the 3rd. it seemed to be a bit of trial and error. Now it all works, windows 7 sees 3 individual monitors and they can all be calibrated individually, which you can't do with just a GTX980 with 3 monitors connected to the one card. Not looking forward to connecting the 4th monitor in a couple of weeks.... Martin
  7. Thanks Jeff, Yeah I have the latest spyder software (older spyder Pro hardware) but like you said, windows sees the 3 monitors as 1 super wide monitor so the spyder only makes the one profile. I wish I could afford the high end monitors, maybe in a few years. I'm going to try and run them using 2 cards and see if that works, just need some down time so I can experiment. I'll let you know the results. Thanks Martin
  8. Hi, I'm wondering if anyone has a solution/suggestion to my calibration issue. I've been running a GTX580 for the past couple of years with two monitors which have been calibrated with a Spyder Pro. I can never get enough desktop space so I bought a 3rd screen and a GTX 980. I have both the 580 & 980 installed but run the monitors off the 980 because it can handle up to 4 screens. The 580 is now just to help with RT in Vray. The Problem I'm having is the 980 runs the monitors in "surround" mode so it sees all 3 as one therefor when I calibrate it only sees one monitor. So one monitor is perfect and the other 2 are going to be slightly off. Anyone had this issue before? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Maybe running one through the 580 and 2 through the 980? not sure if that's possible. Thanks Martin
  9. I use "X-Mouse Button Control". Its free and allows you to setup application profiles etc....
  10. whats going on with the layer manager? I hate! setting up new max versions......
  11. We did a job the other week and they gave us 3d data from the surrounding area which was done just like you described above. Pretty rough close up but worked okay.
  12. All the freaken time! Like you I just fill in the gaps. If its major I tell them I cant do any more until they fix it up.
  13. Problem solved for less than $100 - Bought a stool from IKEA (way too short, I knew this before buying) The stool came with a flat timber top (very uncomfortable!) - Replaced the legs with home-made longer ones. - Bought some foam and glued it to the top and put some fabric over the foam. Done! Its not the most comfortable stool for long periods due to the seat size but its great for a 20min rest when the feet get tired.
  14. Thanks George, first bit of furniture I built.
