  1. To piggyback onto this, I used to be able to select the line between the light orb and the target point on a target light and it would select both and allow me to move them together. Now I have to select both individually.
  2. I apologize for even asking this but if someone could help I would be very thankful. I had been using 3ds Max 2013 for years and recently switched to 2016. In 2013, when zoomed way out in an orthographic, wireframe view, I could select the outer limits of the star of a daylight system compass so I could easily rotate my sun location. Now in 2016, I have to zoom way in before I am able to select. Such a stupid simple thing but it slows me down. Any thoughts?
  3. Thank you so much Josef! That was it.
  4. I was just forced to upgrade to 3ds Max 2016 from 2013. When I used to import Sketchup models, the materials would come in as Arch and Design. In 2016 they are coming in as standard materials. I have been googling this for days and cant find an answer. Somebody help me!
  5. Thanks very much for the reply! I guess I should have noted that I am using Windows 7. ) It is the weirdest thing. I was going to post a video but I guess it was too large. You can see the processes jumping all over the place in the task manager as well. Eventually it will stop and return to normal. My work around has been to remote connect to my other pc to check progress rather than switching via the KVM. I suppose that is a decent solution, I am just really curious what could cause this.
  6. Let me see if I can describe this problem quickly and so it makes sense. I have two pc's connected to a KVM switch. I have a render going on pc-A (Boxx Xtreme 4920) where I go into the task manager and stop one core from contributing to rendering so I can work in Sketchup or whatever else without any lag. I have been doing this for years with no issue. The problem comes along when I switch over to the other pc and then switch back. Even if it is just for a second. PC-A starts freaking out. Max seems to be cycling through every dialogue box that is open and the pc runs so slow that it is barely usable. I cant for the life of me figure out what might cause this. Any insight would be appreciated.
  7. That worked! Seems to be all set now. I have everything in the proper slots and it recognizes all 32GB. Thanks so much for the help. If you have any final thoughts or suggestions for overclocking I am all ears. I am just using the OC Genie that is part of the BIOS on this board. I am currently running at 3.8 GHz. Should I be overclocking my RAM. Sorry for all of the questions. I am very new to this. I have a Boxx machine at work that is overclocked at 4.5GHz and it screams. I was trying to build a home machine that would be very fast as well without spending the same money I did for the Boxx. So far this machine seems comparable if not a little faster.
  8. Gotcha. Sorry I was looking at the hard manual. ) I did start with one stick in 1 and it wouldn't boot... I will try it again.
  9. Page 30 references the Multi Bios switch. Is that what you wanted me to see? How come CPU-z says Channel # Quad? Is that just what the motherboard supports?
  10. So am I wrong to assume that from the CPU-z results that I am in quad channel mode and that things are running properly? I also ran IntelBurnTest and it recognized all of the RAM. It completed perfectly with the very high stress level checked.
  11. Yes, MSI X99s SLI PLUS. Processor: Intel Core i7-5820K. This thing seems to be flying through everything I throw at it. 3ds Max, Sketchup, Photoshop, etc...
  12. Thanks so much for helping me troubleshoot this. This is the memory I purchased... http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820148861 I did make a CMOS clear after the update. I dont know about setting the RAM settings to XMP? Is that option in the BIOS? I did try reseating them all with no luck. If I install all 4 sticks in DIMM slots 8-5, everything boots fine and it recognizes all 32GB. But I assume this is then running in dual channel mode... That is where I am at right now and everything is running great. Is it a problem to leave it this way?
  13. So I did a CMOS reset and updated the BIOS but the board is still not recognizing the memory in DIMM slots 1 & 3... There is a board explorer function and it only shows DIMM slots 7 & 5 highlighted.
  14. Ok so I got everything up and running again. I consulted my motherboard manual and it said I should have my ram installed in slots 1,3,5,7. I did that but now it only recognizes 16 of my 32GB of ram. Any thoughts? Thanks!
  15. I need help, quick and badly! Please!! So everything was running pretty much fine but I wanted to get back in and install the second fan and I also realized that I installed the ram in slots 5678 instead of 1234. I had to remove the Noctua to get to the fan and be able to get to the back clip to remove the video card. I put everything back together and now when I power it up, it doesn't seem to recognize the video card. I can't tell if it is that or a boot problem. Everything powers on fine. The fans are running. The video card fans just run for a few seconds and stop. I tried another video card to see if I messed something up and I get the same result. Everything sounds like it is up and running properly but I can't see anything on my monitors. I have tried re seating the card in every slot. Any thoughts? Could it have anything to do with moving the ram?
