  1. thanks Scott. They dont look too bad and will do just fine. A little pricey and the "walking" variety is on the low side, but these might do just fine I'll contact them soon for more info We need to render with Vantage at the end of the day
  2. Hi all Anybody know of a viable alternative to Anima All 4D people? We dont mind various libraries of for example 10 animated people, pre-rigged and animated with motion data, but it needs to be the quality of Anima 4D people. Anybody know of such libraries?
  3. you need to look at the average scores Also, inside the average scores, you'll need to see amount of benchmarks done a handfull of benchmarks could mean overclocked systems or such low scores is likely laptop scores which will always be lower you need to look at the middle one in this case I searched for a single 4080 and it shows the RTX scores average "3753" and there were 99 tests conducted with similar systems. You also need to take into account driver version etc
  4. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xoQ_kUSGWmo Script download link in YT video description Supported Render Engines: V-Ray Corona Redshift FStorm Arnold Other plugins supported: Itoo ForestPack Itoo RailClone tyFlow Phoenix Disclaimer: See enclosed disclaimer and security notice in the zip file. USE AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!
  5. if you're only using 2D, then AutoCAD LT is a fraction of the cost of full AutoCAD or try Bricscad Alternatively, just get yourself a full AEC subscription, which gives you full AutoCAD, Max, Revit and a bunch of other things, MUCH cheaper than getting Max and Revit by itself
  6. Costs is a totally different discussion. My question mainly relates to the technical side. The type and size of our projects are usually very large, and trying to manage the architects and their modellers\drafter's\technicians are not reallly an option. In a perfect world the model would just work and things will be on correct layers, families, and correct materials assigned. But often on the client side there are multiple people handling different parts of the model and people my be replaced as they move on to other projects and on their end they have to deal with 3rd parties like engineers etc. Communication is key yes, but this is not a perfect world and hardly ever will you get a model that does not need any kind of modifications. I'm just looking for ways to streamline things our end in a smarter way without having to force the client to work "correctly".
  7. Hi Guys How do you deal with Revit file and design iterations? Is there some magic plugin, perhaps from Sini or other's that can make life easier? If we model things ourselves, then iteration is simple enough. But often, clients would send Revit files, that sometimes are not correctly modelled or materials have been applied incorrectly or not at all. That means it takes a bit longer to clean up in Max. Often you have to detach subobjects, pull vertices etc. This is good and well in a single design, but often the client would send a redesigned model and that of course completely invalidates any poly edits you were forced to make etc and you almost have to start from scratch again.
  8. Ive been running everything on default, except disabling all wireless settings in bios. Seems fine(ish) so far. Idle temps are around 36 or so, with the occasional clock and temp spikes between 55 and 61 degrees (celcius), for no apparent reason while simply browsing. Apparently this is normal, but still a little weird to me as this is my 1st AMD system (been using Intel for 30 years!)
  9. 1) Make sure your network is fast enough to handle all users and their large files. There's a big difference in 300 users using autocad vs 20 users using max. 2) Make sure your file server(s) can handle the traffic, and have the network bandwidth, processing power and ram to deal with it all 3) If your file server is in the cloud, make sure you have a VERY FAST broadband connection(s). 4) Use max automation, standardization and central max management. In othe words setup startup scripts from a central location to adjust user settings across the company. This can include typical settings, scripts, menu items etc. That way everybody is using same settings. I've setup our scripts to reset and re-install itself each time max is launched (takes 2 seconds). That way if a user messes up his settings, it will be magically fixed next time he starts up max. 5) Make use of either/or/combination of: XREFS, Live links, Layers, Selection sets, Groups (try and use groups as a last resort). And then show/hide/disable things not needed. If you've added trees/plants, those are typically not needed to be seen constantly while you texture your building. 6) If your working from home in the cloud, avoid thousands of small files. Those typicaly kills your sync. For example if you're using Google Workspace as your file server, dont attempt Unreal or Unity projects direct from your Google Drive. Instead, copy Unreal/Unity projects locally and copy it back. This could also be problematic as you may forget. Instead, setup a version control like GIT or Perforce and that will sort Unreal/Unity files for you more efficiently. 7) Make sure your hardware is cooled efficiently. Overheating can quickly become the cause of major instabilities/crashes
  10. Hi Guys If I'm not planning on overclocking, are there any specific settings I should be paying attention to, or can I basically set everything to default in the BIOS? ASUS Dark Hero, AMD Ryzen 9 5950X Also, do you guys install all the utilities and monitoring that come with the board, or do you prefer only the chipset drivers?
  11. Hi guys Looking to get a quote on something like so (for VRay GPU rendering, and also various realtime engines raytracing use) I don't want to be overclocking, so everything will run at stock, and I would like to keep temps under control, ie not go to 100 degrees C! I'm unlikely to add another GPU, so it will be a single With the various makes and flavours of the 3090, is there any that stand out from the rest? for example: Asus ROG Strix 3090 OC White Gigabyte AORUS 3090 XTREME MSI 3090 Suprim Gigabyte 3090 VISION OC EVGA 3090 XC3 Ultra ZOTAC Gaming 3090 Trinity For the actual system, these are the components I'm looking at (its whats available locally) AMD Ryzen 9 5950X NZXT Kraken X63 Asus X570 Crosshair VIII Dark Hero NZXT H710 HyperX Predator 2x32GB DDR4 PC4-25600 HX432C16PB3K2/64 (64GB) X2 = 128GB Corsair HX850i Samsung M.2 NVME 980 Pro 1TB (OS) Samsung M.2 NVME 980 Pro 1TB (Realtime Projects, Davinci Cache etc) RTX 3090, whichever flavour! Whats the difference with Corsair HX850, and the HX850i varient??? Should I be looking at the Corsair HX1000?
  12. Tommy, did you guys choose the framed artwork on the wall, or was it specified by the client? On a related note, where would one find such artworks for use in renders? We have model and texture libraries, but I can't remember seeing artwork as such. Basically shutterstock, getty etc?
  13. Yes with the new AMD cards I mention, they will have raytracing hardware, so hopefully some new tech other than Opencl to access it. Something similar to RTX perhaps
  14. Forest Color and Railclone COlor works in VRay 5 CPU as well as GPU rendering We use bercontile a lot, and that doesnt work as expected in VRay 5. However, that being said, there are the new UVWrandomizer textures in there that are pretty great. If you have a slow CPU, then a modern GPU (or 2) could do wonders for your workflow. If you have a modern CPU as well as GPU, then both working together could help when using GPU for rendering. AMD's new cards are rumoured to come out in November. Historically these have sucked for GPU rendering with VRay and you pretty much need an NVIDIA card, but the new ones are suppose to have raytracing capibilities built in. But even if new AMD's are 20% slower than their NVIdia counterparts, they're likely to be millions times cheaper! (hopefully) We'll have to wait and see if it can be used for GPU vray rendering.....
