  1. What OS are you using? 32 bit has a 1500mb memory limit per program, so when max/vray reaches that they crash. (there is a fix for xp pro to allow upto 2GB per program) Displacement does use alot of memory (are you using the VraydisplacementMod?) i personally break up my scene and composite them together in Photoshop. (hide pieces from the camera view & render in stages)
  2. I'm still a little stuck, maybe someone could tell me a method or show me a link to a way of rendering a clean GI with moving objects. (Ive tried the spot 3d tutorial, but it seems SP2 cant do that method without white blotches) Maybe it could be my materials that are affecting the GI? - no material has interpolation - decent Subdivs of 12+ - im using a soft image filter of 3 also is it the light cache that makes the noise? or the IR Map? my light cache setting as as follows: subdivs: 500-600 sample size: 0.02 number of passes: 3-4 store direct light: off inter samples: off Glossy rays: off Mode: Single Frame IR Map: Medium Animation - Prepass/Rendering (saved the Ir maps and used interp frames of 1) Hsph: 50 -90 Interp: 40-70 Interpolation type: Least Squares Sample: Density
  3. Yeah i know you shouldn't use multi frame incremental, but i gave it a shot after reading that someone did have decent results with it. My character is moving.
  4. After trying and testing around 8 different methods of calculating GI with an animation ive come up short. No method seemed to work or it was taking WAY too long. Im using Vray SP2 so i don't have the new Camera feature that people seem to be raving on about. I wont post my settings since as Ive mentioned above, I have tried several different solutions with no real viable option. Im looking in getting my frame render times in under 10 mins. for a 720x576. as im writing this im again trying the animation prepass/render option in the IR map. Do the settings have to on high? the 3 images that iveattached shows the problem that im having. This was rendered with a medium incremental add to map. any help in the right direction will be greatly appreciated.
  5. I just spent the whole week learning reactor and Glue3D to simulate water movement when the client requires caustics instead of fluid water ripples. Ive never really touched caustics in vray so im a little stumped. I can create caustics (after going through this site and the attached tuts) but im still wondering how to create a pool with caustics. My Scene: A logo is at the bottom of the pool while the caustics and water movement distort the logo. The camera is top down looking into the pool and at the logo. Methods - Ive gone here (http://www.dualheights.se/caustics/) and generated caustics but im not sure how to implement the .ifl sequence. - Another thing Ive tried is animating water, but unfortunately i don't get the crisp caustics im after. Thanks in advance to anyone who can point me in the right direction. EDIT: im looking for something like this: http://img409.imageshack.us/img409/9265/causticdb3.jpg
  6. I have freelanced for about a year now (even during college) but i find it hard to get the next job. Also my clients have so far been only interested in 1 project, then i loose them. i dont have developers or a company that requires work often. Thats the main reason i wanted a full time position in a company.
  7. NEED FOR SPEED 3 ALBUM- 02 Romolo Di Prisco - aquila 303
  8. OK thanks for the advise. Much Appreciated. and yes it was qantm, that's why i have a little amount of architectural renderings because we broaden our work/study to all different areas. Just checked out your site...im guessing by travel you mean to a different state? I'm up for moving almost anywhere (metro) but only after April since i have a few things im organizing now.
  9. Hi all, Ive recently graduated from college and i couldn't of picked a worse time to be looking for a junior/graduate position! I haven't given up, far from it, but i am running out of options so i thought id ask around, Do any of you know of any companies that could possibly be looking to expand in the near future? because Ive been getting a lot of "sure!, well hire you...but not now" If not in the Brisbane area, maybe Melbourne? thanks for the help guys.
  10. I currently use: 3ds Max - for modeling, animating, rigging, some material creation Vray/Mental Ray - for rendering Photoshop - texture creation, composition Premiere - video editing/final output Will be getting into: Combustion AutoCad
  11. Thanks for the points guys. Some of the mistakes came from laziness and getting over the scene. I agree with your comments and will employ some of your suggestions to improve my next image.
  12. Done a bit more of this room. Its my first ever composited image (generally i like to work only in Max...and use those results) Constructive criticisms...?
  13. Im not sure, sorry. - Didn't they also buy SAE and turned it into QANTM? There is a fish tank (and other small modifications) in the second image because its a later scene. Also their is no background/sky because its a work in progress.
  14. Dont worry i think i got it. All i had to do was click "Use light cache for glossy rays" Sped it right up (from 33 mins a frame to about 6 mins) Thanks for the help
  15. OK this could be the easy "you forgot to tick that box" sort of a question. i had a lot of issues with rendering animations without blotchiness or without extremely high settings, so i looked around the forum for solutions. I stumbled across this link (cant post link ) from one of the users and all went well until render time. I clicked render and it takes around 33 minutes per frame! i lowered as many settings as i could and even took of displacement and still just as slow. could it be my material subdivs? (max is 12) my render frames are 688 x 378 (weird i know but its for a web demo) When i don't follow the tutorial provided each frame takes around 5 minutes (i just simply calculate each frame separately and stitch them after in the RAM player) but the results aren't as good.
