  1. Final image for you if you are instested! Went for a more diffuse light through the window behind the camera and took your suggestions into account re the downlights. Thanks again!
  2. Hi Heni, thanks for the feedback ... much appreciated! I did to two 'exposures' from the 32 bir EXR in the end, a darker one for the foreground chair and side table that were getting blown out. Maybe I need to take that further and reduce the impact of the sunlight coming through. I guess a photographer's image would be quite manipulated as you say to balance the lighting, while I'm thinking to be 'realistic' the sunlight should be quite strong. Agreed, the space also need more inhabitiation. Back to the model I go ...
  3. Hi there, here's a final draft of an interior image I'm working on for a client. I'm pretty happy with it - the image looks good and communicates the design well. However I'd like advice on how to make it more 'photoreal' please? By this I mean in terms of the 'look' ... so work to textures, lighting, rendering & post rather than adding plants, books etc. A few points : - image was done in Maya and rendered in Arnold as 32bit EXR. Then processed in Photoshop using AEC LUT and other techniques - there is not a lot of natural light, just from Physical Suna nd Sky through the window behind the camera. I think it would look more real if there was more natural lighting, but this is the design - I have made concessions to reality in balancing the lighting for client purposes. eg the back of the space should probably be darker and the sunlight brighter, but this is not so good for the client. Also attached is a raw version of the 32bit render. Thanks in advance! Chog.
  4. Hey Francisco, I hear what you're saying and I'm not giving up on my local freelancers. As I said in my post I'm "exploring other options for when things are crazy busy" ... i.e. for when I'm already using all the freelancers I know of, so it's certainly not my first choice. I too am a local professional and have lost out on jobs going to China - I guess the reality is that to be competitive on bigger projects you need to have some fairly cheap modelling power at your disposal be it local or not.
  5. thanks George, not worked with a Panter before. first time for eveything ...
  6. Thanks for the feedback guys, sounds good. George - who did you use in China?
  7. Hi there, Bit of a controversial topic (possibly) but has anyone had any success outsourcing modelling work to India or China? I hear lots of chat about it but few people who have actual experience of it. Currently using local freelancers which works well but exploring other options for when things are crazy busy. Thanks! ps. please don't promote your own services here. i'm after feedaback and recomendations, not self promotion.
  8. hi there, another 2D people question ...! there are quite a few bird's eye view people sets about now which is great, but does anyone know/have any people viewed from below. ie viewed from ground floor level standing on a first floor balcony? many thanks, CB.
  9. thanks Daniel, will have to try and find some more interesting profiles then i think. i got a few from ERCO, but they have far less variation.
  10. nice work. particularly like the lighting. if you don't mind giving away a few secrets, i'm curious how you get the variation/banding pattern from the downlights on the walls (if that makes sense) - an IES profile or is it a ramp applied to intensity? cheers!
  11. Thanks a lot Simon. Yes, of course. I used Mental Ray from within Maya for the renders, rather than the maya software renderer. The scene was lit with Physical Sun and Sky, portal lights, FG and GI. Then yes, there was a bit of post too. The usual tweaks to colour balance, contrast, exposures etc plus the DOF was done in post. The Zdepth channel was also used to generate a bit of fog/atmospherics and also to paint light in at specific depths in the image (eg behind the stair screen). Thanks for looking!
  12. Thanks again guys. Yeah, lighting was the main focus for for me on this along with exploring composition. Glad you like the Giacometti! I was finding it tricky to find sculptures that weren't cheesy and had the right mood, so ended up modelling these from photos. Wanted to try some displacement mapping on them to get the surface detail but ran out of time ...
  13. Thanks very much for the positive feedback! Glad you like them. I should have a couple more personal projects finished in the next few months ...
