  1. Yep, you can go back to older versions, but to be honest, I never had any problems using the latest release.... One reason for that might be that I alway wait for the first hotfix or service pack before I upgrade.
  2. It was a really huge investment for me to buy 3DS - I even had to borrow money from my gf - but once you took that hurdle it's not such a big deal paying 550.-€ once a year for a subscription renewal. I really can't understand why I see so much people using outdated versions here as it is so much cheaper to be on subscrition than to update. Using warez is certainly not an option. I want to be paid for my work so autodesk should be paid for their work, that's it. It's so easy to get rid of a competitor using warez, not only in the US : https://reporting.bsa.org/r/report/add.aspx?src=us&ln=en-us
  3. You could try to -copy and paste the text into a vector graphics editor like corel draw i.e. -convert the text to curves -export as dxf -import into max No idea if this works, but you could give it a try...
  4. To be honest: mr can be a bit "tricky" to use sometimes and you'll find more tutorials for vray on the web. On the other hand, using mr you don't have to pay additional 1000.-€ for a plugin that doesn't differ that much from mr concerning speed and output quality. Just register to the chaosgroup website, install the lite/demo version of vRay, play with both renderers and make your own decision. In the end you should use the renderer you feel more familiar with and that fits your workflow.
  5. Great work! Are you still using mr? If so, you have proven once again that you can achieve great results with it! (I'm following your blog btw.) Maybe CA is indeed a bit heavy....
  6. Imo (first impression) the sofa and the wall behind it are too bright considering the sun position and the hard shadows on the ground. I'd bet you added some additional lights to brighten the sofa area but this looks "wrong" somehow. Maybe it would help to rotate the daylight system 70-90 degree counter-clockwise, delete all fill-lights, add mr sky portals and increase the final gather bounces (up to 4-5) to brighten the shaded areas. If you haven't done so yet, use photon mapping in conjunction with fg. I'd add at least one person in post. Keep it up!
  7. "create" tab -> lights -> standard: There should be 8 different types of lights including mrAreaOmni and mrAreaSpot Could it be you're working with an outdated version?
  8. Your artificial lights are too white, a household bulb's light is about 3000kelvin (=orange). http://www.ls-photostudio.com/shop/images/KELVIN.GIF
  9. I bet the resoulution of your source image is too low. The rendered flat projection should be at least 4000 px wide for a good looking qt panorama. Beyond that (assuming you're using Pano2QTVR), you can set the movie quality "lossless for static", however, the file size of your movie will increase.
  10. There's a checkbox "Enable Filtering" in the Object ID's parameter dialog
  11. I use mdProjectTimer for time tracking, works great for me. The "standard version" is freeware, once installed you can change the program language to english. It's even possible to create your own project-templates including particular jobs (texturing, lighting and so on....). When your project is finished, the program exports a summary (*.pdf) of your working time. Unfortunately the homepage is only available in german.... http://www.mdprojecttimer.de/Downloads.aspx

  13. OK, thanks Jon! I even found a free script for stereoscopic rendering that may be worth a try: http://www.scriptspot.com/3ds-max/scripts/3dhippie-stereocam I don't know if it works with 2011 as it is written for 2010 but i'll check this. As a subscrition customer I could even do a parallel install of 2010&2011 as far as I know... Anyway, i'll find a way to get this running. I contacted Visumotion yesterday, z.l.i.c.e.3D is a bit too expensive for me as they charge 1.700,-€ for a licence. Maybe I'll find a workflow on how to edit the streams seperately so that I could skip this expense. Their stereoscopic rendering plugin doesn't run under 2011 either. I think as soon as I have finished my current projects, I'll grab my machine, move to my client's office for a couple of days and do some testing. Thankyou for help, regards, Lutz

    hello

http://www.zwischendrin.com/en/detail/107 Assuming you got a legal license for max, 48,-€ should not be a big deal...
  15. Thanks for your reply Jon! OK, to my understanding i got alternating frames in a videostream, one for the left and one for the right eye that are alternately masked by the shutter glasses, while the shutter glasses are sycronized to the framerate by the 3D-display right? As a first step I should figure out which display they exactly got.... The svi-stereo-renderer seems to be like a "script" or a video post effect that combines all required settings in one interface, settings for depth and so on. Using this plugin I could render out two sequences of stills, edit edit them in premiere or whatever and combine them in the svi player? Is the svi-player capable of exporting the combined streams to mp4? Thanks for your help! Regards, Lutz
