  1. Also, if you export from AutoCAD as 3DS, you can import 3DS directry in to Maya with a plugin that can be downloaded for free from AliasWavefronts site. It is called 3Ds importer and can be found inside the community, under downloads/plugin.
  2. easy, Normaly you assign a image/texture to the colornode of a material. If you want to do what you are asking for, just map it to the Ambient Color node instead. Its these steps and then you are done: 1. Create a new material 2. Open its attribute editor (Ctrl+A) 3. Click on the checker at the side of "Ambient Color" 4.
