  1. its funny how much posting your problems on a forum helps...even if that help is from yourself. For days I couldnt figure out why my display was like the images but as soon as i posted the porblem i went back and found that my Cad drawing was imported at wrong scale and everything was 10X bigger then it should have been. I scaled it down and the viewport issue is gone.
  2. Hi I started using max2011 resently and foud a few issues with the view port that i cant seem to figure how to get rid of. i attached a pic of it. in the image there is NO overlapping of objects, each floor is not a solid block but are thin walls. I have a Evga 260 vid card with up to date drivers, using dirctx9 (x10 dont seem to work too well) Windows 7 x64. any help would be great.
  3. hi i been working on a animation fly thru of a house. i was getting too much flickering (altho the settings were fairly low) but i figure i try saving the irradiance map and light cache maps. i used the preset of "high-animation" for irradiance and got some strange "rip" patches, (rendered every 10th frame of 1000 frames. camera movement is fairly slow.) anyone experience this before or know what is causing it. thanks
  4. its funny how you always find the answer yourself right after asking others haha. should have posted hrs ago! ...i turned on the affect background in vray: color mapping and that seem to work.
  5. hi i have a river scene, for animation, but the water and sky is not turning out right. either the sky is right and the water is wrong or the water is right and the sky is wrong. i have a vray sky in the "environment and effects" slot and to "material editor" to edit intensity multiplier. At sun intensity multiplier = 0.04, the sky is right but water is dark. as i increase intensity water reflection starts to look good but sky is totally white...there is no happy middle any help? thanks
  6. finally got around to "finish" this. thanks guys for the comments in WIP section. comments are always welcome.
  7. anyone got any advice on leaky lights?... the 4 pot lights i have on the ceiling have some serious leaking to them. i have a vray light in a tube thats about 2" thick that is inside a hole (that has top and sides so not just a circular void) in the ceiling. it seem so random, i had render with higher settings before and it was not there but i cant get rid off the leaks now :-(
  8. ya i been having some problems with bleeding in thoses lights, i cant think of why it would bleed in the first place. I placed the light in a 2" think tube you think that would stop the bleeding but it doesnt. i have to crank up the settings to get rid of bleeding but right now its on low (vray) just for the WIPs
  9. thanks for the input. hmmm... i check into the fireplace... maybe the material is too white. outside the window, i wanted to put either some lights or a city scape or something but havent found anything that i liked, putting an image just wasnt convincing, might have to build the outside for it to look good.
  10. Hi all, been reading and checking out this forum for a while. figure i post something. still texture to add and detail to overload scene with comments are very welcome.
  11. Hi theres 2 parts to this, a still rendering and a animation part Im trying to figure a price for additional renderings. say as an example, i have build a model of a city block for a still rendering, i charge "$x" amount for it. the client then decides he wants another angle. i have previously charge about 60-70% of the first rendering. BUT theres that part of me thats thinking "well im providing him with another rendering, and theres nothing different between the renderings quality wise, so should i make it the same price or just a hair under"........whats everyone take on this?...i think 60-70% is reasonable but maybe im undercharging im not sure. k, for the animation part, same city block example. this one im a bit up in the air in terms of pricing additional movies. resently i did a 1min animation (city block) for $3000+some . client then wanted another 30sec movie...i pull # out of my head and said $1000. how do you guys go about figuring a price? The models already done, setting up camera doesnt take that long, just rendering time. is there some number system you guys use for these situations? is your additional prices relative to the orignal or just "x" x rate or something any constructive comments are welcome thanks
  12. ya Im starting to think that $1000 (Canada)a piece would be reasonable for that amount. Just wish i had this chat before I had the meeting with him . now im mad at myself in how I approach this client, good lesson to learn although expensive lesson. To be honest, when i heard that he wanted 50 it really threw me off cause i was expecting like 5-6 renders and i was prepared to offer him a multimedia package with QTVR and stuff. I heard 50 and i think i choked ahaha. thanks guys
  13. Hi Being that this is my first post, i just want to say that this is a great forum/site that i find very informative and helpful. I resently gave a quote to a Homebuilder for some renderings that he wanted (about 50 renderings) for all his new house plans. Now I quoted $1500-2000 for each. and that was a BIT too high for his liking and at this point was unable to get a more exact figure for what he wanted to spend, but it sounded like in the X.100s. Now Im just trying to start out freelancing but i been using Viz/Max for quit a while now. and now a bit hesitant to give another quote to the next guy without know what this render on average goes for. Ive asked in the newsgroups and first few responces were around $300ish, which is a BIG difference then my quote (though i did put a lot of detail in my demo image i showed him, more then he need maybe). I've attached a image of what i demo to him...he really like it but not the price. Now for my dilemma, if my quote was way off and rendering of this such only goes for 300ish do i go back to him?....look really bad if i do though but its money. but 300ish+ seems a bit low tho, but thats just me. what im trying to get is an idea or range of prices not necessary a exact number cause there isnt one but something to help to determine if i should put my pride aside and go back thanks
