  1. Thank you , I have been in the business a long time ,and always thought you got shafted, and was completely unfair. That's the reason I brought it up. Your talking to some who used Bryce and Strata 3D 26 years ago.
  2. Can I ask a unrelated question. Did you guys write DATASMITH? If you did, I'll get my coat and leave. That has changed the way business is in the CG world.
  3. It one that sounds very like this. It was widely known at the time. The best of luck with the Software.
  4. Is my memory wrong or what this jot the software that was "Borrowed" off another guy who was developing it? They brought him in and asked all about it then they developed there own on his work? Correct me if I am wrong?
  5. Thank you for that. General day to day work flow, large master plan work for example, with lots of detailed required. Phil
  6. Devin Thank you for writing that post. I would agree adapt or die as they say in the movies. The work you showed as examples are very good though, they are excellent quality. My work flow is max corona, mostly these days photo montages. I am presuming the first example is Lumion? Can I ask what you day to day work flow is now. Master plan work and Interiors namely? Thank you Phil
  7. I have used them in the past and for commercial work. The guide lines are as the link below sets out, but I am 90% sure you can use them, as long as you have the GE logo somewhere. https://www.google.com/permissions/geoguidelines/attr-guide/
  8. Jon I know these questions get asked a lot, and I always only have time to think about them over the few days off at Christmas. But work is still coming in. Yes I agree with you on The real time softwares now Twinmotion Lumion , Unreal, and they are still in there early stages in my humble opinion. I always hark back to , give a child a pencil he will scribble something, give it an artist, they may create a masterpiece. A good eye is a very valuable thing, just because they have the software dose not mean they will know the best views to take, and correct composition etc. But yes I hear you ,and I'm 50, and have been doing this now of 25+ years. So my thinking is keep up to date give them what they want, a lot of companies I am finding are happy with less quality and shorter time frame. Be interested to know what other people are doing. Phil Happy New year, by the way, and lets see what the future holds next year.
  9. Can I ask how people price for VR work. There are still in the project too, but the client wants full VR of the areas too outdoor streets. Thank you phil
  10. Four hours is very little for the that job. Even with the model ready, the rendering and the lighting would be more. No models are ever premade precisely for a job, there is always some adjusting to do. Obviously you tell the client 2 days..................for profit.
  11. Nigel I'm in Dublin, Ireland. I am self employed now for 7 years. I had been working for a large company but with the recession in Ireland the construction business was hit very hard, and the company I worked for, went under. So I was forced into it really. That was a bad year, to say the least, lost my job, and statuary redundancy, and my lovely wife passed away. So I had a 4 year old son, and no job, and the banks, freeze all your joint accounts when your wife or husband dies until probate is handled. My case 2 years, as my wife was Italian. Why am I telling you this because I had no choice but to pick myself up, and get working to bring in some money, mortgage and family, and lots of offers of financial aid from family, but your a grown man , stand on your own two feet. So In short it is was difficult, but it suited me. I could work the hours I need to work, and more. I did work all day, and then at night when my son went to sleep, which is never an easy job. I worked night and it took a while to get stable. It is not easy, as a self employed person, you are the director, manager, marketing , accountant, and financial manager. Your dealing with good clients and bad ones. Some pay straight away, others don't, chasing un-payed invoices is a big time wasting exercise. I never switch off, as you do all the jobs that come in. The more you do the better you get the faster you get. I'm not rich, but I have a house now, and a new life, and it suites me. Saying that there are no company over here taking on full time 3D people. Revit modelers yes, Viz people purely for Viz, no. So it's not easy. some days I would give my right arm to be in a big architectural company working with health and pension contributions, and the security of a bank balance every month. Not so in the SE world. Some people want to run their own business and are quite successful at it. Health and happiness comes first for me , not money. The very best of luck with your decision. Phil
  12. Can I ask what 3D people you are using theses days? Thanks philip
  13. No It sounds like your out of memory, What spec is your machine and is it up to it ? The snaps work fine. For basic modeling in plan use the 2.5 snap. phil
  14. Not reliable for home use. Had it go down at the wrong time on deadlines. The new licence , ie no dongle version, is only available for the new licences. but anyway the pricing of vray is still way off the price of Corona....hows that going to pan out.
