  1. Hi Thanks for your reply! hat's new to me! coming from Thea render (you don't need to set anything, the engine color codes everything for you). what do you mean by AA filter setting? and why would you use object wireframe color render? how would you use that and why is it better then oID?
  2. I'm a bit new to Vray. in thea render this would color code the rendered image for post. added matID and oID to the render elements list - I can choose them from the drop down on the VFB but they are all black (image & alpha rendered fine). am I missing something? should I have done something with the model? Thanks
  3. Trello is nice! thanks. its missing some features but its a start. dapuls seem more robust but is costly. thanks to trello I found realtimeboard.com which is off topic but worth checking out for online sketch collab. I guess there aren't any better alternatives..
  4. ya, it was applied and actually messed up some walls. the glass didn't make a big difference maybe could get IOR up to 1.1 but nothing over. Thanks to everyone on the post for the help! hope this helps someone else as well..
  5. I usually correspond with clients over emails, send an Image with a question, get an answer etc. sometimes there are so many emails replays, forwards and attachments its hard to find a specific task or comment. sometimes projects are halted for a few months and later on I try to see where we stopped and its almost impossible. I'm trying to figure out how to better organize this process. If I could organize the correspondence in a forum of some sort, where I can upload a post with an image send a link to the client where he can replay - keeping everything in order under the same topic - and allowing me to back-track and see what lead to what etc I think that could really help my workflow. I thought about creating a wix site / forum just for that purpose but I'm thinking there must already be a service like that right? or maybe even something better? what do you do? Thanks!
  6. I'm used to meters so I didn't even realise what 1" glass means! thats thick.. I guess its so it shows better on sections and plans.. anyway there's too much glass to remodel it all. + I want to keep it linked to Revit for future changes. I send my refraction IOR to 1.05 and I'll have to live with it I didn't apply any smooth groups. is it applied automatic? how can I change that, if I even can?
  7. Hi Thanks for pointing out the IOR lock! I tried playing with it but somehow didn't work well probably because of that lock. when refraction IOR is set to 1 it looks good, maybe not that realistic though, it still means there something wrong with the model right? it shouldn't be 1 for glass, right? this is imported from Revit, so its just a solid mesh, it has a thickness of 1" the normals are right (I think see attached). there are no modifiers applied, only applied the mesh edit to check normals. any thoughts and ideas are welcome, thanks
  8. Hi! SO, I recently moved to Revit (from cad+sketchup+thea render). sadly I'm going back to 3ds max and vray. I used it before but not for a few years. I'm trying to figure out whats causing my glass to bend the view so much. don't recall this ever happening before. the window frame is 90 deg and not bent as it looks in the render. maybe its something from the revit model? its just a store front family with default parameters. and its just a basic vraymat with refraction. I tried changing most parameters in reflection, refraction, IOR, diffuse etc. its always there. attached render + with mat on the side + cropped closeup. any insights? Thanks!
  9. Thanks for you advice. I'm guessing you didn't actually watch the youtube links. the problem wasn't with the converter software but the method. anyway a friend help me figure it out. when I compressed the video I didn't notice the setting was on 30fps while my video was 25fps. that created extra static frames every second and resulted in the jumpiness. after I change all the settings to 25fps everything was fine. used handbrake to encode in h.264 and all is well, maybe this will help someone else sometime.. thanks!
  10. Hi, I know this is a video issue but I don't know a good video forum, this is 3D related anyway. hope somebody knows.. I did a 3D walkthough and the file size is huge, 1GB for 6.5 minutes. I tried to follow some online tutorials on using xvid to compress video but the result is too jumpy and annoying. here is the original, pretty smooth: here is the compressed jumpy version: original is 24000kpbs. anything under 20000kbps gets to jumpy.. all online tutorials talk about 3000-10000kbps, how do you get these rates to run smooth? how do you get an HD 2 hours movie to run smooth at 4GB and here I can't make a 6 minute video weight less the 1GB?? please help me.. or help me help myself in anyway. thanks!!
  11. Well, thanks for your replies. after looking into allot of programs and trying a few I realized I don't have any other choice then to learn one of the complicated ones, I went with after effects. though aftereffects isn't a video authoring program per say it is the most flexible program I found. all other softwares are rigged when it comes to manipulating videos. in ae each video is like a single jpg, easily moved, scaled transformed etc. its easy to add drawings lines, markers and text and make sure they follow the same point along the presentation. it actually answers all my requirements except the simplicity issue. well, sometimes you need to work harder to get your desired outcome. thanks all, and if you're looking at this thread because you want the same thing, try AE. its photoshop for video.
  12. How do you usually detail your roads? how do you make the dashed center line? I actualy draw every part with as 2D cad and transfer it to surface. is there a better way? some fast way of doing it in sketchup? I saw instat road online but looks like a way to make a new road surface, not detail one you already have. thanks
  13. Yes, as I have learned it is the most in depth software. don't want to learn a new software for an occasional use. hoped there was some kind of simplified app for dummies. p.s. while checking other option I notice sony vegas always comes up as a premier alternative. how much better vs. simple is it in relation to premier. do they even have a difference?
  14. Yes thanks, it was my first choice but got the demo and watched some tutorials, doesn't have most of what I need. it has great color correction and post capabilties but very limited in mixing of sound and/or video. not to mention annotations. text is too complicated and doesn't look good. also adding annotations is extremely limited. can't split the screen to show 2-3 videos at the same time. mixing of video and sound isn't intuitive. overall, didn't like it. I guess I'll ask it differently: if you make architectural walkthroughs, which video editing software do you use and why? thanks
  15. Hi, I'm an architect occasionally doing cg models with videos and walkthroughs. right now I use windows movie maker to create my presentation but its far from my needs. I would appreciate some advice on the most simple (must) cheap (preferably) video authoring software to do the following: must have features: 1. accept most popular video file types with sound. 2. allow to add multiple videos and mix/ cross-fade between them, like having a separate day and night view videos and going from day to night without actually simulating it on the 3d software. ALSO allow for more than one video on screen with some type of divider (yes complicated) - maybe to show the project from above with a facade both moving at the same time. or show house plan with interior at the same time, etc. 3. allow more then one sound file at a time. at least one from video file and added background music. also allows to add different background music files and mix/crossfade between them. 4. allow to cut/edit/paste video parts. 5. has the ability to add text - with as many as possible pre defined text effects. preferable features: 1. video editing: color correction / pre-defined color and style effects. 2. allow complex annotations - add arrows/boxes with text to indicate important information. - really really want this - but can live without.. 3. as many as possible presets for effects and edits to make the video live and interesting - fast. 4. has a rewind effect - to go through an important part, "rewind" and show it again for better impact don't know if something like this exist since I did google and searched this forum, but maybe with 2 simple application, one for some and one for the other features I can get all of the above done? thanks in advance,
