  1. Thanks guys, I will check out the resources you've suggested. I appreciate the feedback!
  2. What resources are you using to create vegetation (trees, grass, plants, etc) in Cinema 4D?
  3. That's exactly what I thought when I received the chair spec. Surprisingly, the legs are actually that thin.
  4. Thanks for the feedback Mariana! I agree, the reflections on the stairs do look a little weird. I might just have to rebuild the side of the stairs so the mesh comes out smoother. That's one thing that I encounter when importing a model from Vectorworks, the mesh always needs some work done to it in C4D.
  5. Studio/Institution: Pete Maric Illustration, Design Genre: Residential Interior Software: Vectorworks, Cinema 4D, Photoshop Website: http://www.petemaric.com Description: The basis of this model was created in Vectorworks, then imported into Cinema 4D for final modeling tweaks, texturing and lighting. I played around with several HDRI images for the exterior environment before deciding on a dusk city scene. Comments and critiques welcome.
  6. That's a bummer to hear that your friends were disappointed with one of the two services I mentioned. I have not used either service yet, maybe it's a good idea to keep looking around before deciding. Thanks for the feedback!
  7. I've been looking into incorporating a render farm service into my workflow, and wanted to get your opinions on what render services you prefer and why. The two render farms I've been checking out are http://www.renderrocket.com and http://www.rebusfarm.net. They both look like excellent services, although I'm leaning more toward rebusfarm based on being able to integrate the 'REBUS Farminizer Software' directly into Cinema 4D for easy upload/download of project files. Has anyone used these services, what are your thoughts? Can you recommend any other render farms?
  8. That's been my experience as well Peter. I've been using C4D AR for the past few years, although it produces decent results, there's still a little bit missing to achieve photorealistic renders for arch viz. After seeing some of the astoundingly realistic renders produced by vray users, I thought Vray might be a good rendering engine to look into. Thank you for your input!
  9. Agreed, Mograph is very cool! I haven't tried using Mograph for arch vis work yet. Thanks for the tips!
  10. Thanks for the feedback Steve! Can you achieve more realistic renders with Vray or is it about the same as C4D AR?
  11. For architectural visualization work, which render engine do you prefer? Vray for C4D or C4D Advanced Render? Why? I have been doing all of my rendering with C4D's Advanced Render and have been looking into Vray and thinking about possibly switching over.
  12. Thanks Bob and Peter for your critique and helpful tips for how to do it better. The overwhelming criticism so far has been about my cameras. I agree, this is an area I really need to work on. I’m really not sure why the render quality is not better. All the rendered stills were batch rendered at 1020 x 720 HD in Maya, composited in After Effects, then exported and assembled in iMovie for final output. In After Effects, the animations looked great (as far as image quality goes), but once exporting the final from iMovie, I noticed a bit of artifacts started to show up. Peter, I think you are right about the lens flares. I went a little overboard with using this feature for almost every transition in After Effects. I’ve been using After Effects for two weeks, and reaching for the first dumby button that looks cool was perhaps not the best solution. Thanks again guys. No more lens flares, and use more interesting and dynamic camera moves, got it!
  13. Hello, I’ve been developing my 3D modeling and animations skills over the past several months and wanted to post my first demo reel here. Here’s the link: Any constructive criticism, comments, or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks to everyone who has been replying to my posts on 3D technical questions, your assistance has been very helpful to get my portfolio to this point!
  14. Thanks Travis! The path that it was saving to was correct, but the occlusion layer was inactive which resulted in it not rendering. Once I checked the 'R' in the render layers, the occlusion layer batch rendered. Learned my lesson...double check the render layers are all active before batch rendering.
  15. Hello Everyone! I am trying to batch render stills for an animation, and have a color and ambient occlusion pass. When I batch rendered other projects, the color and occlusion passes would both be in my images folder. For some reason, the color pass batch rendered but not the occlusion pass on my last project. Is there a way to batch render just the occlusion pass without redoing the color pass? I'm using Maya. Thanks!
