1. Hello, Does anyone know where I can get high-res maps of insulation (rockwool/polystyrene/celotex etc)? I'm doing a cut-through of a construction and need to show all elements in quite a lot of detail Thanks
2. Really good. Well played I think the thing with the unpopular Ghostman is that it doesnt seem to match the camera speed/F-stop (for the light level in the scene and the fact that it's bright outside). If you want to keep the bloke, you could try reducing the blur effect a little. Bloody impressive though. Where do you get the maps for the concrete and timber?
3. Thanks for your suggestions guys. I did try your recomendations, but to no avail. I then played with the background settings, which (I think) is where the problem lay. I have now changed the Vray reflection/env. to a bitmap rather than an HDRI image. I have manually offset the image tiling (U-axis) in the material editor to get a reasonable perspective. Unfortunately the reflections dont realistically relate to the lighting. I realise this is a bit of a bodge job, but can just about get away with it in this case. 4. Hi, I've been working on this rendering for a few days and it's nearly there. I just cant get the reflections right in the glass panes. Could anyone suggest why the panes have their own reflections, rather than a realistic overall reflection (not explaining myself very well but hopefully clear in the attached image). Most apparent in the foreground doors. I'm using an HDRI background/environment. Vray with 3d Max Glass mat settings: Refraction = Nearly white, IOR = 1.52 Reflection = full white with fresnel, gloss val = 1, Cheers
5. Hello, I need to increase the radius of an existing chamfer on an editable poly (which I chamfered and subsequently converted back into an EP). All of its edges are rounded, but not enough. Could anyone advise as to how to do this? Cheers
6. Hello, I'm getting some strange shadows occuring in my models. Sometimes shadows appear from objects that dont exist or they invert. Here's an example: Note the strange white shadow on the table of the top of the chair on the right. If I then move the view slightly (or the time of day) they can correct themselves or just change but still be incorrect. When I render in vray they are correct. Is this a GPU/OpenGL issue? I have EVGA nvidia GTX570 HD card. Cheers
7. Looks vastly better without the fog. Cleaner, more realistic and les like someones been smoking Cubans in there. Really nice image. The windows look a bit odd though. Perhaps you could put a silicone seal around the panes or something to give the glass some depth?
8. Would suggest widening angle of second image. Seems a little claustrophobic. Agree with Brad, that angle is slightly on the piss. Corner line of wall should be vertical. Edges of image are a bit lost ie. part of object on left looks odd and plant is unconvincing on right. Good though.
9. How did you get such convincing look to the grass? It has a really nice luscious appearance. I've only ever been able to do short, cut grass
10. Quality! Great movement in the washing on the line. Are the foreground trees high-poly objects (if not, how did you do them)? Good stuff
11. yeah. nice. Some depth of field could work well with the fairly extreme perspective you've got. Nice eerie shot though.
12. Thanks Dan, Have checked out a couple of sites and should be able to get what you've suggested + monitor and bits and bobs for about 900 quid. Cheers for the advice
13. Hi Am just getting into Mental Ray rendering on 3d Max, but (not suprisingly) my 6 year old mid-range machine is finding it a little tricky. I'm looking to upgrade my system. Nothing too amazing (due to financial restraints) but something with min. dual core processor/big chunk of RAM etc. Could someone give me an idea of what sort of machine I should go for to enable me to use MR effectively. Cheers
