  1. Hi everyone! I'm pretty new at Arch Viz and I'm having a horrible time finding(making) trees and plants. Converted paint fx can only get you so far and all of my research so far has only brought up stuff for max. Any tips?
  2. looking good! I would put a door knob on the "pantry?" door and maybe something on the adjacent wall.
  3. Hi guys! I'm in school right now studying animation and I'm putting together a presentation on Arch Viz for my Career Development class. One of the requirements is an informational interview with someone in the field. I would really love it if one of you would oblige in answering a couple of questions! This wouldn't have to be on the phone. We can PM or you can just reply here on the thread! Below are some of the questions I have in mind. If you answer please may I have your name(you can always make up an alias I guess), job title and where you work. I know this may be personal info....you may pm me this info, but if I do not have this information, my instructor will not count it as a complete interview. You don't have to worry-I'm not here to scope out jobs. -do you have to know how to use CAD programs? -what did you go to school for? -I know you can render in CAD programs and they turn out pretty descent now that they have Mental Ray. Why not just render with CAD programs instead of going through all of the work in MAX or XSI? -Is there a career ladder in Arch Viz or is most of it based on experience and work quality? -What is the most important soft skill to have in Arch Viz? -How much does a full time job vary from freelance? is it better to be attached to a company/firm or will your portfolio speak for itself? -do you think arch viz has a good outlook? do you think arch animation will become more accessible? -for your boss, how do you work around them not knowing much about computer modeling(i.e. how much time and effort it takes to do Arch Viz) -does arch viz prepare a skillset great for other careers? you don't have to answer all of the questions! Thanks to everyone who answers!
  4. I almost didn't see the door...maybe you should model the frame of the door more like a really door frame...with a "stopper" for the door and an inlet where the lock goes etc.
  5. There are a couple of small annoyances that I can't get past. A chess set? I don't know about you, but I don't know many people who have chess sets in their kitchens...maybe replace it with a newspaper? Or because there's wine, maybe a cheese board with fruit on it? three wine glasses is weird too. It was the first thing I noticed...I don't want it to seem like you ran out of ideas for countertop stuff and stuck another wine glass in there because you already had them modeled. The photos of the children have an odd placement. I wouldn't put the third one down so low to the floor. I'm not sure what is on top of the fridge...a bowl?
  6. looking really good! Agree with the saturation comments...a little too bright. I would also add some smaller things in the scene for scale. maybe some baseball bats? or a water cooler?
  7. I've checked out all of the previous renders and it's looking better and better each time...just a couple of things... The background image looks..kinda horrible..it doesn't seem to match the lighting or is not bright enough, but if you are still doing this in post production this should be an easy and fast fix. I love the new bedding and pillows! They are SO much better than the first run through. I wanna sleep in them...looks like a down comforter. The "door" needs some handles...or maybe it's a sliding door? so then it needs maybe more definition than just that flat, plain jane surface. The curtains look a little stiff, but aside from maybe pulling one back with a rope (of the same material) I don't know what would help. It is a little hard to see that they go under the valence instead of sprouting form them. I don't know what this image is for. Is it a luxurious hotel room? Then maybe you could add some more items that tell that story such as a bottle of water on the nightstand(nothing says luxury more than Dasani!) or a little vase with a flower bud in it...? Slippers/decor/patio furniture could also help! Love, love the floor!
  8. I hate the people...they are never lit or staged right in these types of images but maybe your client really wants them? They take away form the model in this image way too much...I'd say they are about 30% of the picture...and too bright so my eyes go straight to them instead of all the work you've done. Edit: Oh yay I didn't notice the second page...so glad they are gone!!! in the upper left hand corner...is that sky? or concrete. It's very flat and hard to understand there.
  9. I'm a current animation student who fell into some work doing arch viz so I'm totally new to this! It seems fun and challenging and I'm so excited and impressed with all of the work I see here. I work in Maya and render with Mental Ray!
  10. oh yeah! sorry this is Maya 2009 + Mental Ray with a simple ao pass and final gathering the leaves on the tree are huge because the tree was never meant to be scaled that big, but unfortunately I don't know much about paint FX (the tree is converted fx to polys) I can't really find any good paint fx trees/mel scripts and/or don't know if I should just model my own?
  11. Hi guys! I'm still a student studying animation and got some opportunities to try out arch viz! Here is my first exterior! Please tell me what you think! All advice would be really appreciated!
  12. looks like there's still a canter in the horizon..it's really distracting, but the new angle and view are spot on!
