  1. Definitely going on my Christmas wish list. (which means I'll be buying it myself if it's $200)
  2. I saw these through Netflix streaming and enjoyed them. Mary and Max. Stop-motion animation, a slow, mature story that kids would probably find boring. Very sentimental, too, surprised me. http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0978762/ Angel-A (by director Besson) - http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0473753/
  3. Thanks, Pictor! I just learned something useful.
  4. I think the modeling is well done, good job! The shadow areas underneath the roof could be brighter. I would imagine the sun/skylight bouncing off of so many white walls would help lighten those areas in shadow.
  5. Thanks for the link, pretty cool furniture.
  6. I use a Wacom Bamboo (medium size) tablet both at home & work. The only drawback is no middle wheel to scroll with. The tablet itself does have a touch sensitive scrolling ring that gives a similar result for zooming in/out. And to scroll up/down, I assigned one of the side buttons as a middleclick so I can hold that and move the cursor up/down. My hand never gets tired as it does when using a mouse. Plus, no one will want to mess around with your computer because they can't get used to the tablet!
  7. Hi Maxer, I work for a furniture company based just outside of Houston. Yes, I was trying to figure out if there was any way to automate the process I described. It's a bit of a pain for all of my scene states to create 2 Batch Render settings, plus add the dependency in the Queue Monitor. I've tried the 'switch to saved irr map' mode and assigning the job to only 1 server, to see if it would actually switch to the newly created irr map, but it recalculates, nonetheless. I'm not using LC, nor am I changing cameras, so at least that simplifies things. Even if I just had to create 1 Batch Render setting for every scene state and not worry about dependencies in the Queue Monitor, it would be a big help.
  8. I have a problem that's part VRay, part Batch Render. (I'm not using Distributed Rendering because the rendering times are about 30 seconds/frame, which negates any advantage of multiple computers working on a single frame.) My project contains many scene states which I use to toggle layer visibility. As such, each particular scene state will require it's own irradiance map. I've tried using the "Single Frame" option under Mode and also selecting "Switch to saved map". I've found out that the irr map is continuously calculated/created when the job is sent through backburner. My current solution is a bit cumbersome. I create 2 Batch Render groups for each scene state rendered. The 1st group is rendering the 1st frame with a rendering preset that has VRay save an irr map. End of job. The 2nd group is rendering all frames and using the previously computed irr map. In addition, I make sure that under the Backburner Monitor, I make each job dependent on the previous one, so that the irr map is created before another computer tries to start rendering frames without the corresponding irr map. If I had a couple of scene states, this method would suffice, but I have close to 150! I hope somebody has a more elegant solution for me. Thanks!
  9. Ah, thanks for the post. I just moved to west Houston a couple of weeks ago, as I got my old job back. I took it considering the economic state. So, although I'm open for moonlighting freelance gigs, I'm not available for full time work anymore. I do appreciate your response, nonetheless.
  10. Amer Abidi: Thanks for the well wishes! Maxer: I appreciate you keeping an eye out for me. I would even move to Houston for a good professional opportunity. Regarding the 3D User's group meeting I attended in Austin, out of about 15 people, at least 4 of us were looking for work!
  11. Much like Russell Thomas, I'm moving to a big city in Texas. To be specific, Austin. Most of my previous work comprises of architectural renderings, with 1.5 years focusing on furniture renderings. I was laid off in December, and am moving to a city with higher potential than College Station, TX for 3D work. I'd like to stay in architectural renderings, but moving into compositing live action & cgi work is interesting, too. I've made my rounds pounding the pavement at many architectural offices, but if you have any type of connection you feel comfortable with passing along, I would appreciate it. I'll be in Austin May 27th for a 3D User's Group's monthly meeting, to introduce myself & network. If anyone else wishes to meet me at the meeting, or another time, feel free to contact me, I'm sure I'll be making many trips to Austin the next couple of months. Thanks, Enrique Camacho
