  1. I probably should report it. To be honest, I run into so many bugs and crashes with Max that it's demoralized me to reporting bugs anymore as it would take up a notable portion of my work day. I thought this was was worth asking about just because it seems like such a basic feature, and I believe this bug has persisted through several generations of the software, that I must be missing something.
  2. Checking to see if this is a universal bug. In 3ds Max 2015 when I'm in an Editable Mesh and go into Edge mode and click on Slice Plane, I don't get the yellow slice plane preview to show me where the slice plane is and what it's orientation is. I believe this is true for other versions of Max as well and it's a basic enough function that it drives me nuts. Am I missing something here?
  3. No worries, I just got off the phone with your mom and that cleared everything right up.
  4. I received a response from Vlado about this...
  5. I'm having an issue and wonder if someone else can replicate it. I'm using Vray 3.00.06 with 3ds Max 2015 SP1. 3ds Max crashes when I try to open a scene containing Vray Proxies which are A) instances of eachother and B) set to Preview from File display mode. Here are some simple steps which cause the crash on my machine. 1) create sphere 2) convert the sphere to a vray proxy 3) create an instance of the proxy 4) change display mode to Preview from File 5) save file 6) attempt to open the file that was just created If someone would try to replicate this I would greatly appreciate it. Thanks, -Brodie
  6. Sort of an odd question, but does anyone know when the Compensate Camera Exposure tick box was introduced for VrayLightMtl's? -Brodie
  7. Thanks for the warning. Actually, for what I do I turn exposure off in the camera and just adjust my lights. I tested it with one of the free samples and it looks perfect. I've purchased the package and I'm downloading it now. Thanks again for the tip. VizPeople wasn't even on my radar. -Brodie
  8. Great resources! Thanks. The Digital X Models seem better than just about anything I'd found on my own but the Viz People pack looks killer. Exactly what I was hoping to find. Thanks again, -Brodie
  9. Anyone have a resource for 3d mall interior stores? I've found some so-so options on Turbosquid but that's about it. Something compatible with 3ds Max and Vray preferably. -Brodie
  10. I use both Max and SU so the vrmats that work with both programs should be a huge help to me. I'm also excited about the repository of materials Chaos has on their site now. The biggest issue with the vrmats from the library, though is that there's no preview. At the least, you'd think there would be a cutsheet showing the materials alongside their names. I don't see any way of finding out what a material looks like short of loading each material one by one (there are 100+ glass materials alone with no descriptions at all). Am I missing something? Is there a viewer out there for vrmats? Is there a way to quickly load a big group of vrmats into a library so I can view the little previews in Max's material/map browser? Here's a video about vrmats if you're unfamiliar/curious... -Brodie
  11. Thanks Scott, that's really encouraging info with the LC+IR combo. I'd love a peak at that write up if you're able to post it. -Brodie
  12. Thanks for the info. Good to hear about RT, I hadn't seen much on that improvement. -Brodie
  13. I know there's some info out there from the beta testing but I wonder if anyone has done a review of the final release. Curious if there are any bugs or things to look out for with the new version. -Brodie
  14. There are valid reasons for going from Max to SU. My default formats are either 3ds or OpenCollada (not Autodesk's Collada format which won't import into SU). 3ds has poly limitations which are quite limiting but the objects come in as components which is nice. Open Collada explodes everything which is annoying but has some nice advantages. No poly limit. It will preserve your textures (if you switch them to Standard materials as opposed to Vray or some other type). And it preserves the origin point. That last one is huge if you go back and forth between Max and SU and need a 2 way link. Open Collada can be downloaded here https://github.com/KhronosGroup/OpenCOLLADA/wiki/OpenCOLLADA-Tools There are SU scripts you can use which will recognize when geometry is similar and make it into components but they take a long time to run. -Brodie
  15. Ah, hadn't seen those. You're URL showed up in my "reply with quote" but not in the post so I'll repost it here... http://ark.intel.com/products/64596/ It looks like it has a brother as well. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819117272 In light of that I'll humbly redact my statement about Intel not making 8 core cpu's. However, given that these both seem to be server processors costing about $2000, I'll maintain that 8 core processors are still pretty rare -Brodie
