  1. Have been busy lately with submission drawings, anyway here is an update
  2. Firstly let me just say that im still new to 3ds max. ok my problem is that the tiling is the right size i want in the viewport, but as soon as i render it it comes out way too big. i have to scale it down so it looks tiny in the viewport for it to render the size i want. this is irritating coz its a trial and error thing, and i dont have much ram to waste all the time. ok on the object i am using has an unwrap uvw and a uvw mapping modifier
  3. Howzit, yeah the soccer stadium is finished, they already had a few soccer matches over there already. Yeah i know the ppl that did the stadium quite well, T.J. Architects (http://www.tja.co.za/) our firm is collaboration a project with them now. i will pm u someones email.
  4. I Have the same problem in 3d, in 2d its easy, just type RE, it regenerates the drawing. but when i work in 3d RE doesnt work, i have to zoom out far and then zoom back in.
  5. just paste the new fonts into C:\WINDOWS\Fonts Autocad will pick them up the next time u start Autocad up
  6. I stopped working on the 3d because i havent been paid for the first part of the job yet (submission drawings) that i finished a month ago, so i put it aside, but then the other day we had a meeting and he needed 3d's urgently, they want to advertise soon, anyway i rushed, there is a lot of things that i would like to tweak and change, but anyway this is what i managed to do, this is 1 of them. c&c are welcome, but dont be too hard, i know there is a lot to do to it, and this is my first 3ds max render that i have ever done. im still trying to learn.
  7. thanks for the link, but can i just 1 question, im still new to max, i noticed that in all those tutorials they used Vray, I dont have Vray, can i do the same thing using mental ray? what should i do?
  8. Its not really big at all, there are a couple of firms that only do 3d's but they mostly use programs like Archicad + Artlantis, its good, but nothing compared to the stuff i've seen out there. The firm that i work at we dont do 3d's we normally send out our drawings for that. All day i do submission drawings, its nice, but i would really like to get into the 3d industry.
  9. I actually did it in max, i could do it in autocad, but i already had a roof tile layout in max that i just rotated and trimmed. so the less work kind of won me over, lol. But everything else was modeled in Autocad
  10. This is a new job that i've been doing after hours. Its a really nice house overlooking the ocean. when i got this job i found out that there was no drawings of this place... eish. So i had to measure up this place by hand and draw it up in Autocad. I modeled it up in Autocad, and then moved it to 3ds max for the rest of the work, this is how far i am so far. still have a long way to go, especially since im new to 3ds max. i've seen a lot of nice grass out there in the renders, could some1 post a link to a tutorial i could do, or give me help on what to do? I use to do my 3d's in Autocad, there were no fancy grass tools, only grass maps, but that looks terrible.
  11. Hey im new here, so i'd just like to say a few things about myself. Im straight out of the bushes in South Africa, my transport is an elephant, its not fast, but it is transport. it also helps to chase away those pesky hyenas from our hut at night. I work on a pentium 1, 100mhz, 24mb ram, 1 gig hd, and use dial-up internet. emailing is so much better than sending letters on our racing pidgins, coz the hawks get them sometimes . lol, im just talking rubbish . Anyway i am new with 3ds max, maybe a couple of months, i use to do everything in AutoCad but i needed a better renderer. so hopefully i can learn a lot from u guys.
  12. does it only happen when there is a large number of faces, or just line work? im not too convince that it is the graphics card, my home pc has a really good graphics card, but an average cpu, but my work pc has no graphics card at all, it runs onboard graphics through the ram but it has a better cpu than mine and the work pc runs a lot better than my home pc (autocad in 3d), even after my expensive graphics card. dont get me wrong, having a graphics card will make it run smoother/faster, im just saying that the speed is more to do with ur cpu, and keeping it running smooth is up to how much ram u got.
