  1. I use the Floor Generator script to get the basic planks/strips, which have all the mapping in place and work well with Multitexture. Once I have the planks/strips, I rotate each row in one hit by a few degrees in their local X axis and then pull up the top vertices of each row by about 10mm to get the overlap. Each wall of planks can then be rotated up to a vertical position and moved into place. Hopefully that makes sense. It's a pretty quick way of doing it. I keep hoping someone will tweak the Floor Generator script to work on vertical faces - my maxscript skills are non-existent unfortunately. A re-write or version 2 has been rumoured for ages now......
  2. Thanks for the update Dan, it's good to hear it all worked out well. Also interesting to know that the prices worked out very similar, even with the cloud option. You weren't tempted by Fox Render then?! ;-) Cheers.
  3. I've used both Rebus and Render Nation, and they're both very good. The Euro/GBP might be an issue for you I guess, which could favour Rebus? If money is an issue and you don't want to pay upfront or as soon as the frames are rendered, which is how Rebus do it, then you would be better off with Render Nation, as they work on a 30 day invoice for payment. If you do go down the Cloud route, please let us know how it works out. From what I've read on here, the set-up can be quite complicated.
  4. That's very kind of you. Thanks for sharing your hard work!
  5. Hi Sean, Thanks for letting us know. It looks very interesting from what I can see on Amazon and have pre-ordered it from their UK site. Roll on 1st October!
  6. The 3ds max licence will allow you to have it installed on 2 computers, so you can have it at home and in the office, without all the export/import licence file hassle.
  7. I've not tried Log Me In, but with Go To My PC I was able to model in 3ds Max remotely and use all the functions, just as long as it wasn't a really heavy scene. I think Go To My PC have a 30 day demo you can try.
  8. It's not good is it! I'm so unimpressed with ATI. As well as all the issues with 3ds max, there's also a wierd thing with the mouse cursor freaking out every now and again - turning into a barcode type shape and the only way to get rid of it is with a restart. A quick google search reveals that as a bug that's been around for well over a year and ATI still haven't fixed that. Think I'll be going back to my old QuadroFX 3700 before too long......
  9. Hi Dejan. Welcome to the forum. Are you using a Quadro 4000, or a FirePro V7800? Just curious to know so that I can try the beta driver on my V7800 if it worked for you. @AJLynn: Andrew, the strange thing with the beta driver link for AMD you posted, is that the beta driver is a year older than the officially released version. Or am I being dumb?
  10. Hi. I've been meaning to post for a while now. I also have a Firepro V7800, bought as an upgrade to my old Quadro 3800 and it's performance in 3ds max 2009 and 2011 is very disappointing, both in terms of viewport performance and stability - it crashes max fairly regularly. Fortunately I bought it as a new card on ebay for about half the retail price, but it still doesn't feel like a good buy. I've steered clear of ATI cards for years due to their poor reputation with driver issues, but after reading the reviews of the V7800 I thought maybe it was time for a change - something I'm now regretting! I'm also running Win7 x64 Pro on an AMD 1090 Phenom wih 8Gb ram and I've tried various drivers from ATI, as well as DX9 & 10, OpenGL and the performance driver, the latter being the most erratic - some scenes open with blank black viewports and are unworkable until I switch drivers. I haven't noticed the memory issue, but will look into that. Anyone else having similar issues with 3ds max and the V7800? Thanks.
  11. Sounds good, I'll have a look at that. Cheers.
  12. Tom, I hear what you're saying, and I felt I could always get to the bottom of a problem to to with Win XP, but Win7 is just not that easy, so much stuff is hidden now - the whole Permissions thing is ridiculous. Like your nodes, my old XP64 box is due for retirement really, it's only dual core, so fairly soon I'll have to replace it - probably with a Sandybridge when they sort those out. In the meantime, I need to get a wireless set-up to make it easier using our iPhones and the laptop around the house, hence upgrading to a new router with built in 4 port gigabit switch. I'll let you know if that helps! Cheers.
  13. Thanks Tom. Couldn't agree more about Networking, I dread it whenever I get a new machine. My network is only 3 strong at the mo - main workstation on Win7, old one on XP64 and then my laptop (used for emails, admin) on XP32bit. I'm going to upgrade to a new router next week with a built in 4 port Gigabit swith, so that will help to some extent, but I never had any speed issues with the 100mb setup until adding the Win7 box. Think I might also try adding a separate network card into the Win7 box instead of using the built in adapter, which may help. On a separate note, have you had any problems with Backburner on the Win7 machine? I'm having a nightmare with the BB Manager becoming unresponsive and losing connection with the BB Servers, both on across the network and on the machine also running BB Manager. Weird thing is, it's intermittent - sometimes it works, but lastnight when I left it rendering 6 images, it locked up after 2 images and left me right in the sh#t. Again, it used to work fine on the XP64 machine.
  14. Hi Tom. Did you ever resolve this issue? I'm getting painfully slow transfer speeds between my XP (32&64bit) machines and my newer Win7 machine - like 9 hours to copy 1.5Gb across the network from an XP machine to the Win7 one! It seems to be well a well documented problem on the net, but no one has a definitive solution. Like you, I'm inclined to think it's a setting in Win7 somewhere, as my network worked fine until I introduced the Win7 box. Cheers.
