  1. This is a student project for a small café/tea house. Comments very welcome and especially ideas how to solve: -CAD-modeled model has perfect joints = coplanar faces when brought to 3dsMax = artifacts in VRay (separating faces would take ages) -Skylighting. For this scene I tried a VRayHDRI skylight, a simple color skylight and a bitmap skylight with up to insane multipliers. In the end the only way I got enough diffuse light was by adding VRay planar lights behind the windows (and the lights render as white rectangles, hiding everything behind them). -VRaySun overburning on the patio. Is this just a exposure matter? The program is unable to load my logarithmic exp ctrl, so I had to use Automatic ctrl. And yeah I know the rust texture is way too small.
  2. Nonono! I think the pickup is super, makes me believe it much more. There are way too many viz renderings where even the smallest accessory is Italian design with a 6 number price tag. Please make this one stand out! Edit: And I especially love how the driveway is sloping!
  3. So this setting affects the output regardless of the renderer? And does it matter if it's a displacement modifier or a material displacement? Would be nice to know before I run into that problem myself I think it's good you elaborated how you fixed it, so this thread may help others.
  4. Looking really good now I like the deeper colour of the building.
  5. Is the fascia of the slab beveled (darker colour than wall)? My eyes were looking for the answer to that question in the corner (red circle), but didn't find it. If there was a clear edge (like a shadow) between the elements, the beveling would come out more. But the fact that you don't notice it yourself probably means that I'm just having bad sight. It's a tiny detail anyway...
  6. Archibase . net / gdl Cannot post an URL yet Some are just GDL objects but most also come as .3ds.
  7. Wow, amazing atmosphere and beautiful image. The part shown in the image is a bit confusing. If I understand the forms correctly, it would make it clearer to have a small slit between the elements.
  8. I'm no professional, but I don't understand the splash sky. The house and image cropping are symmetric so for me the atmosphere is naturally calm... but then there's this dramatic flood coming from the background? I'd make a calm sky and its colours colder or something, because now it comes too close. Sure you could still do some photoshop effects on a calm sky... I'm really curious what is the point of a separate small bush trying to hide the entrance? If it really has to be there, maybe paint a shadow under it so it doesn't seem to grow off of the pavement.
  9. Found the problem: all edges of one object were (accidentally?) set to "Visible" in the Editable Mesh -> Surface properties. Solution: selected all edges and pushed "Auto Edge" in same rollout, which made all the "internal" edges invisible.
  10. Hello, The model is exported from ArchiCAD to .3ds and imported to MAX. I did a lot of post modeling, rendering and other work in MAX before this happened: I noticed some surfaces are divided into triangles in the render (VRay) and in the viewports. Only one object is showing triangles in the viewport. Still, the objects showing triangles in the rendering are different ones. The normals are OK, no coplanar faces. Tried restarting MAX. Tried changing viewport and graphics driver settings. No smoothing modifier is applied. I may be getting paranoid, but I am also noticing that at the same time of this triangulation the round looking columns in the scene started to look like they've lost iterations and gotten chamfered. According to the VRay messages the model has ~300 000 faces. I've had no problems with the file so far, except MAX crashing every now and then. Any ideas?
