1. My Biggest problem with doing it in post is that If i want to animate my camera focusing from one object in the for ground to another object in the back ground i will have to render the animation more than once... So time of render aside, i still need to render the animation with DOF on the image before doing any post work...
2. Thanks Strat, I just went through your Tut and it was very helpful! I think the idea of getting to know how the F-Stop And shutter speed etc effect the image is probably the right place to start...
3. At the moment im getting absolutely no Depth of field? I cant think what im doing wrong... If i tick the Specify focus box then change my focal Distance it doesnt change at all? Also though this is not the way i want to get it working... i would prefer it if i could animate my Camera Target and the DOF changes with the Camera Target movement... If this is possible? Here are my Camera Settings... Sorry i dont know how to post it bigger but if you click on it it opens bigger...
4. I have to agree with the other responses... If your worried about texturing it make each different shape a different Poly, it would be pretty simple to make the profiles with splines then extrude them... of sweep them... once you have the (in my opinion) 3 Sweeps, then group them and pattern them along as far as you need...
5. That would be first prize, But he did say he had to redo the lighting when he merged all the scenes together, and the X-Ref will do the same thing as a merge without the file size increasing, so he would still have to edit or redo the lighting... But yes if he could use the existing lighting from each scene that would be first prize...
6. I also had a similar problem today, simply fixed by changing the parameters of your lighting, A VRay Physical camera reads light from a VRay sun at 1-1 so put your sun intensity up to 1, when using a normal max camera your normal sun setting will be at something like .01 or .02, if i can remember correctly...
7. Thats what i would do... X-Ref all the scenes into a new "Base" File, your base file with all the X-Refs will probably be under a meg... then do your lighting in the Base file... But also if you simply merge them together, yes your file size will increace, but your lighting shouldn't change that drastically, you should just have to edit a few lights at the entrance and exit's to the rooms... Depends on how you did the lighting really, but im assuming since its for an animation you want the rooms to have a similar feel with regards to the lighting...
8. Hi Brian,

Iv been reading up on DOF with a VRay Physical Camera and you seen to know quite a bit about it, Please could you take a look at a topic i created, im struggling to achieve a certain effect...

9. Hey Guys, Iv recently started playing around with some DOF using the VRay Physical Camera. Im really struggling to get any DOF in my rendered image... I know i can use the Z-Depth Map rendered out seperatly, but i want to use the DOF in an animation and i dont want to use masks or anything like that... Basically what i want to achieve(if possible) is that my VRay Physical Camera Target is my focal point with regars to the DOF, so if i move the Camera Target to another object, the DOF will change as it moves from one object to the next, making the first object then blurred and the "back" object my new focal point in focus... Im pretty sure its quite clear what i want to achieve, but in case im not clear, i want to get a similar effect as alex roman's piece, -third seventh- with regards to how he has used the DOF... I have read many tutorials on DOF and most of them i cant seem to get to work with just pressing render, i can get it to work with the Z-Depth Map, but that is not my goal... All help will be greatly appreciated Tom
10. I never actually thought about that... But the single quad only had 8 gigs of ram...
11. Thanks for all the responses! Iv sorted out the problem... My machine was using all 12 gigs or ram, so once it started paging memory the processors dropped to 30 percent because they obviously had to wait for the paging to happen... I put in another 12 gigs or ram and the problem was solved... So as it turned out the scene just needed more ram to render...
12. Well i can if need be, but they were about 6 different types of trees, all i did was connect all the parts of the tree's so it was one mesh with a sub object material, then right click V-ray mesh export to make the proxies?
13. I sort of did figure that out... How could i do them differently?
14. @John.RenderStream : Hows this? ------------------ System Information ------------------ Time of this report: 2/8/2010, 10:44:32 Machine name: TOM Operating System: Windows 7 Professional 64-bit (6.1, Build 7600) (7600.win7_rtm.090713-1255) Language: English (Regional Setting: English) System Manufacturer: Intel Corporation System Model: S5520SC BIOS: BIOS Date: 09/30/09 12:52:30 Ver: 08.00.10 Processor: Intel® Xeon® CPU E5504 @ 2.00GHz (8 CPUs), ~2.0GHz Memory: 12288MB RAM Available OS Memory: 12228MB RAM Page File: 9186MB used, 15266MB available Windows Dir: C:\Windows DirectX Version: DirectX 11 DX Setup Parameters: Not found User DPI Setting: Using System DPI System DPI Setting: 96 DPI (100 percent) DWM DPI Scaling: Disabled DxDiag Version: 6.01.7600.16385 32bit Unicode Im still concerned with the proxies... I tried just rendering the proxies alone in my scene to then composite the alpha over my scene and use photoshop to get the desired effect, but the problem still occured with the tree proxies...
15. Well i cant upload the scene because its just to big, but i seem to have identified the problem... I have a large amount of trees in the scene, and iv used V-ray Proxies so my scene doesnt freak out to much... now if i delete the proxies the scene renders at full 100% across all 8 cores which is a thing of beauty... but when i merge in the proxies it freaks out and drops to very low percentages... Any ideas?
