  1. I gave that a try, but nothing showed up in the glass. I might have not done it quite right, however. I'll play around with it some more. Thanks!
  2. I am doing an exterior render/animation, and am having a hard time getting the glass to do what I want. Basically, I don’t want to see into the building, because it is empty. So I want a strong reflection. I have the reflection in the glass material at 100%, however, the reflection is not showing up. Probably because there is nothing for it to reflect. I don’t really want to see a sky, because this is more of an abstract render, however I need something for the glass to reflect. So my question is, can I make the glass reflect a sky, but not see the actual sky in the render? Problem: Glass material: Thanks for your help.
  3. Because someone else, is rendering the stills and modeling everything in Sketchup. They are going to use Vray for Sketchup for the stills. So the workflow is: They model and render and set up the scenes (cameras) in Sketchup, send me the sketchup model. I then import the sketchup model into Max, and create the animation. The scenes (cameras) are imported fine, and I am matching them with my Vray camera, which is animated. Sorry, I should have made this clear from the beginning.
  4. I got the two cameras lined up fine with the "align" command. It is just the FOV that is giving me trouble. I am doing an animation, and at certain frames someone else is going to do a still render that should align to the animation frame. That is why it needs to be very close if not the same.
  5. True, however the Max camera controls don't seem to mean the same thing as the Vray camera. The two main settings in the Max camera are "lens" and "FOV". The Vray camera doesn't have a setting for "lens", but I assume "film gate" is the same thing. "FOV" can be set in both the max camera and the Vray camera, but apparently they mean different things, because matching them gives me two very different results. Perhaps you can enlighten me. That is a good tip about applying the Vray exposure control, however I would like to try to figure out the Vray camera. Thanks for your response!
  6. I googled it and all many of the results come up with Lele's Vray tools, which no longer works. I have an existing 3ds Max target camera, and I just need to get a new Vray physical camera to have the exact same settings (focal length, FOV). Any help would be very appreciated!
  7. Found it! Yaya! http://paramod2.blogspot.com/2009/09/tutorial-shows-how-to-create-section.html
  8. Hi guys. I am going crazy here. I remember seeing a tutorial on how to do a render of diagrammatic section cut, while still seeing the hidden lines beyond the section cut. It was a cube with spheres cut out of it and it looked really great. If anyone can point me in the right direction or tell me how this could be achieved, I would be forever grateful! Thanks!
  9. So I am trying to convince our office to give 3ds Max a try, instead of Sketchup and Vray. And the biggest issue I am dealing with is how to do simple changes in geometry to an imported file. For example, on a simple flat wall, I would like to divide the wall face (polygon) into a grid of lines to represent wood panels. Is there a quick way to do this? The grid is sometimes irregular, meaning a horizontal line at 3', 4', and 9' for example. I realize you can do this with the UV mapping too, but I like to render out a wireframe pass and composite the wirerframe and beauty pass in PS. I have some other questions, but I will keep this one simple. Thanks for your help!
