  1. Yeah, I did the photography for the backplates, but not on the first image. That's stock. The core section is a little bit too thin, but in theory there could be a large cantilever as the core is enormous because the building was designed to be 1/3 taller than I've shown. I agree with the miniature feeling on the last image. The backplate imagery I had to work with was really really low resolution, so to deal with that I pumped up the lens-blur. It was kind of the lesser of two evils.
  2. Thanks for the quick response Ryder; are they showing up for you now?
  3. I think this image is fantastic. I love the low gloss wood floor. I think the perspective gives a unique view; a shot that nobody would probably take with a real camera always adds some nice artistry to the render. I also think the haphazard clutter of the books and stuff help soften the image. I also like the glass globes on the lights. I can't tell if the they are on though? not sure on that; maybe it'd be better to either really turn them on, or just let them be turned off? just a thought. Also not sure about the two squares in the upper right--are those can lights? Anyway, this is one of my favorite images today.
  4. Studio/Institution: DeStefano Partners (closed) Client: NA Genre: Residential Exterior Software: 3ds Max and IRAY Website: http://www.joshpabst.com Description: I did the CG on this project in late 2011. I can finally share it, as the office I was working for at the time, DeStefano Partners, is no longer around. So, no, this project will not be moving forward--at least not looking like this. This 111 West Wacker project has a lot of news and hubub circling it, but your guess is as good as mine as to what will be built there in the hopefully near future. Regardless of what the ultimate and final design is, it will be better than the shell of concrete that rests there now. The site has been an eye sore on Chicago's river for nearly four years. Enjoy! Below are some additional renderings for the project.
  5. Thanks for all the comments: here is another shot (no post production except for levels). The only photoshop element is the 'glow' at the top of the image. Again, I wanted to push these drawings as far as possible in 3Ds Max and see what IRAY could really do. The time-lapse feel of the passing cars in the foreground were done using tubes with self illumination. The depth of field is also done in MAX.
  6. I agree with you. Some Colored lights in the podium level would go a long way to adding some life to the lobby and commercial levels. That's something I would probably normally do in Post. That and adding some serious foreground environment. I've been so busy, I haven't had time to do anything with this particular shot.
  7. Studio/Institution: smdp Client: smdp Genre: Commercial Exterior Software: 3ds Max and IRAY Website: http://www.joshpabst.com Description: This is my first time posting to cgarchitect--probably not the last either! I'm fairly new to the site, but love what I'm seeing here. Lot's of great inspirational work. This is a project I recently rendered at our Chicago office. I wanted to share this primarily because, other than levels, there is almost no photoshop work done here. Normally I get fairly heavy-handed in the post-processing, but because we needed to do some animation, I tried to take the actual 3D as far as I could in the 1-2 days I had to work with it.
