1. Give or take, 15 to 20 minutes. When I was downloading the file it said 20 minutes on the browser which was about right. I did it on windows explorer. I believe they have At&t broadband here at work.
2. Hey Ron, I actually downloaded the beta last night. I didn't have any trouble with the zip file. I ran it and it works fine. I'm running it on windows xp 32bit which shouldn't make any difference anyways. Anyhow, I think in the process of downloading it, the zip file got corrupted. It only took me about 15 minutes to download the file. Perhaps, try downloading it from another computer. Good luck.
3. Thanks Andrew. I saw some useful tool kits on Amazon. I'll try to do this build within the next month. I'll let you guys know how it went. I appreciate all the help guys. Gus
4. Chris, Thanks for the heads up. I would have never thought about using a static wristband. Besides having a regular toolset, are there any additional tool kits that I need to purchase?
5. Chris & Andrew, Thank you guys for the advice. Both of you are right. I do have to get my first build under my belt sooner or later. I just didn't want to spend all that money and screw things up. I have an old pc that I might take apart just to get familiar with some of the components. Chris, I do appreciate your offer. Thank you. Gus
6. Thanks for your reply Andrew. I'll just have to look around and find a good deal or get my hands dirty and do my first build. If not, I'll take your advise and go for the pizza and beer deal. I just hope we both don't get too wasted before hand. Thanks again. Gus
7. To Andrew, I'm kind of in the same boat. My budget is around $1500 not including the monitor. I currently use a Dell laptop xps 16 studio I7 for 3dsmax w/vray, rhino, and photoshop. I'm focused mostly on stills doing small residential renderings. Now, in the future I'd like to add a BIM software package, so this is why I need a mid range pc that can handle the load. I do like some of the configurations you point out for my budget. The problem is I'm not to comfortable building it myself. I had a hard time putting together my daughter's bike, let alone build a computer:) Can you recommend any resources where I can choose similar configurations as yours and have it built for me within my $1500 dollar budget?
8. Hey Heni30, I sent you an email. If your interested just reply back and we can go over it in detail. Thanks. Gus N
9. Brodie, If I see any postings or here of anything, I'll relay that information to you. Only reason why I brought up architectural firms is because I haven't heard of too many arch-viz studios hiring. I guess the majority of artist must be doing freelance work.
10. Hey Brodie, Things seem kind of slow here in Cali. I'm from the L.A. area and have been kind of looking around myself. I'm still in the process of self-teaching myself, but I eventually want to make a transition into archviz. For now, I just have to stay put at my current job as a draftsman. There are a few architectural firms however, that seek the following: 5+ years experience with 3dsmax, vray, sketchup, after affects, photoshop, illustrator..... and I can keep going. Oh, and I forgot to mention, a bachelors degree in architecture required. This is just to get your foot in the door. Unless of course you're an intern and work for peanuts. Sorry to bore you with all of this Brodie, but this is just how I see it right now. But if you have an impeccable porfolio, it might get you in. As for me, I guess I have to go back to school and get my degree:( Good luck.
11. Thanks for your response. I didn't have a level terrain so it made it a little more of a pain. My terrain was more of a downhill. Anyhow, I connected more edges and subdivided here and there. Tessellating wasn't working for me but with a turbosmooth modifier with just one iteration worked out good enough. Thanks again.

How to

Sorry!!!! I've started a new one.
13. I didn't mean to hijack anybodies thread. My apologies. Anyhow, thanks for your quick response Brian. I do want my view up close to show the reveals on the walls. I try to use the chamfer or bevel but my geometry gets all distorted. Same thing goes with the terrain. I have tried selecting specific faces and tesselated the mesh but I'll give it another shot. Thanks.

How to

Hi guys, Jumping off the current subject, I didn't want to start a new thread. Question#1 What is the easiest way to make reveals on a wall without having to clean up any geometry or is it just better to add a tile map to the texture to get the same effect. Please see reference picture. Please see Question#2 I I'm trying to create a terrain to apply a grass material. I converted to an editable poly but how can I subdivide an area to use the paint deformation tool to make it a bit uneven. I apologize with these questions but I'm self-teaching myself:) Thanks in advance.
15. Here's a picture of my toy soldier. JK:) I was just browsing Google since I'm a little bored but I can't really find anything that's inexpensive. Good luck though.
