  1. Thanks for all the feedback guys. I will definitely play with this and let you know what I discover.
  2. Would I use After Effects to get those frames onto the still?
  3. Hi all. I've been using Max for several years now, but haven't done much animation. I want to make a photo real render with just one animated part - say for example the curtain is blowing slightly but everything else in the room is static. Would it just be as simple as rendering one overall image, and then rendering 100 or so frames of the one animated region? What would be a good method for achieving this? Probably a dummy question, but I'm pretty green when it comes to animation, and I want to do this right :-) Thanks.
  4. Cheers for the advice guys, I appreciate it. I'm thinking of something along these lines for the PC: http://www.boxxtech.com/guru/renderpro-2?GuruSessionId=e1908c8a-3a31-4ba2-9229-435ac398a049&ModelNumber=R9120&ConfigName=renderPRO-2-1&referrer=/solutions/media-entertainment/3d-studio-max
  5. Hi all. Quick question here - I had a look over the forum and couldn't find a definitive answer, sorry if this has already been covered 100 times! I've been a single PC guy for a while now, and done all of my rendering over night, but feel it's finally time to invest in a second machine purely for rendering. I use 3ds Max and Vray. My question is whether I need to buy a new Max & Vray license for the new PC, or if I can install my current version on the new PC as it's just going to be a "slave" machine. Again, apologies if this has already been answered to death. Thanks.
  6. Thanks everyone, for your advice. I did eventually get it working last night - Peter, I ended up using a method really similar to the one you described. Let's say that now, for example(!), I had removed the ground or road surface under curb (as it was created by a CAD draftsmen who wanted to play with 3D for the first time!) and I want to recreate that now? Would I use a similar method, but head outwards instead of inwards, so to speak? This area outside the curb is not as important, as it will mostly be outside of the area that the architect wants to see, but I obviously need it to conform to the shape of the curb. Again I apologize if these questions seem very 'noob', but I've always just fudged this to make it work in the past, and I'm on a much tighter deadline this time. Frankly I'm sick of stressing over it every time this kind of thing comes up! I really appreciate the help you guys offer.
  7. Thanks guys, for your tips. I'll be trying them out this evening and giving you an update. I really appreciate the advice, gentlemen
  8. Hi all. I'm having trouble creating a curb for a site - it seems that I get myself into this problem every time I do a similar project and end up just fudging my way through it! I was hoping someone might be able to help so that I can do it efficiently for once. I am away from my PC at the moment so I can't provide screenshots, so hopefully I can explain it OK! So I have set up a closed spline for the path of the curb and basically conformed it to the road surface, which is unfortunately uneven in places. I then create a profile for the curb shape, apply a sweep modifier to the spline and presto - curb. But then my problem always comes in creating a 'top' for that curb - the pavement. Since it's an uneven surface, I can't just stick a flat plane on it. Anybody got any idea on how I can make a surface that will fit the uneven curb heights/elevations? I hope I explained that OK - if not then I'll get some screenshots later on Thanks guys
  9. Outsourcing has become a hugely popular trend, but I think people eventually get tired of the language barrier and time difference. I know that for me, last year was terrible and yet this year has started pretty well - I guess it's just a fluctuating market. I also agree with Andy that there are so many other things that you can apply your trade to. There are industries out there that don't even know yet just how much visualization could help them - there are many niche's out there to be found.
  10. Hi Andrew. I find that I am almost constantly plagued with a sore neck/shoulders. It would probably serve me well to buy a decent chair, rather than just the one with the best looking price tag. I hear that can make a huge difference.
  11. Guys - I appreciate you help immensely! I think I'm going to go with the 64-bit OS upgrade first, and hope that fixes things. I guess I need to make sure I am running a 64 bit processor first, right? Or am I being an idiot?! I am nowhere near as tech savvy as I used to be
  12. ...and I guess the other question is whether 3ds Max 2009 Design is compatible with Windows 7? Seems like there is still a lot of debate over that one. Anybody got a definitive answer?
