  1. Hello - Poll, Thanks for the comments! - The squares on the ceiling are meant to be future can lights. Later on I plan on doing a night scene. - The glass was actually hidden when I did this rendering. I'll change this next shot. - As for the graininess, I rushed this rendering this is how it came out. Hopefully, with some changes to the settings I'll be able to get rid of it. I've only worked with Vray for a few weeks, so I'm still getting to know what all the settings are and how they affect the scene. - The red things on the wall are meant to be paintings which I plan to add a texture to later on. - The area you were talking about in regard to the window is in fact a window with a step down next to it. I can see how this could seem confusing if you dont have any floor plan in front of you. - Lastly, the concrete things on the exterior are simply poured in place conc. planters. - As for the maps, a simple concrete texture that I played around with in photoshop, changing the hues and saturation etc. beestee, Thanks! You're right about the score lines. I actually modeled them in other areas of the house. It's just that for this scene I didnt have time and actually just added them in in photoshop. I'll fix that with the next shot. Thanks again guys! Keep the comments comin! Best regards, Mike
  2. Hello Everyone! I recently just got back into 3D modeling. This is my first crack at a project that I just got placed on my desk. I'm new to Vray and would love any comments. I'm here to learn. Thanks in advance! -Mike
  3. This was my first 3d model. Didn't get to finish it though.
  4. Actually all the grain was done in post production. I added the grain in photoshop. This whole concept was just a really quick test to see how the software works. So far I'm very pleased with it. I'm sure once I get into it I'll find something that I don't like or can get better results from another software package. The thing is I find it exciting to learn new software. I appreciate your comments Mark . I truly love your work! Have you been using Vray for quite some time now? What software did you use to creat most of the images on your site? Well keep up the great work! -Mike
  5. The Company I work for finally put in for Brazil r/s. I was playing around with it and so far love it. This was a quick test I did...not really sure why I'm posting it. I'm just excited to learn new software. Perhaps there might be a Brazil section in the forums coming soon? Any pointers from any veteran Brazil users out there??
  6. Glad I can help.. Well, I've played around with many different methods of modeling. As for the steps I am using right now are fairly simple. I try to model everything (walls, windows, roofs) in cad. You can't really beat the precision that cad offers. I've gotten used to inputing lines into cad with consideration to which way normals are facing. My office uses viz and in the past we've used dwg linking within viz. That seemed to work pretty good. Once in max/vix mainly the only thing I worry about are textures, camera matching, and some organic modeling (couches, plants etc.) Although in the past few weeks I've found a new toy. Sketcup 2.1 Take a look at it. It's a new way of modeling and so far I've really come to enjoy it. Hope this helps!
  7. I had the same problem importing to Max from Datacad(Different Cad app). The way I resolved the issue was to pay attention to the direction you draw lines in cad. Whether it's up or down...figure out which direction gives you the faces oriented the way you want. It takes importing a few tests from autocad to max to see how everything looks. It might seem to be a hassle at first but once you get accustomed to it it'll move a lot faster. This might not be the best way...but I found this to be a better way to use cad's precision along with max. Hope this helps in some way.
  8. Thanks Nisus for the correction. I posted the topic at around 2:46 in the morning after getting home from an evening of drinks. I'm sure this had something to do with the lack of clarity in my question. Re: Thanks Strat! The tutorials are exactly along the lines of what I am wanting to accomplish.
  9. I was wondering if someone could take the time to help me out. I was hoping someone could offer perhaps a quick tutorial or just a brief explanation of how to take renderings of..let's say an exterior building and compose it into a real life picture. I've seen some great renderings with trees seen through windows and that sort of thing. I've asked several people if they did it in photoshop...most have responded with yes's. Any info would much be appreciated. Up until now the company I work for just puts out plain renderings with no backround or real life imagery. I'm looking to change that. Thanks for your help! -Mike
  10. How's it going everyone? I have a simple question...Could someone offer some advice on how to quickly make a texture for walls? The look of simple white walls always makes my walls look blan. I know I could use some stucco texture or something....but I was wondering if there is an easier method of using some of the other materials in max. (simple off-white with noise...or something like that) I'm just looking for something that looks like it has a little variation in it. Simple question...with I'm sure a simple answer. We just got 3d studio max and brazil at work...I'm used to using Lightscape(rip) . Thanks! -Mike
  11. Study of a fireplace that we're doing in a client's house.Comments are welcome and much appreciated. I'm using Lightscape and photoshop. -Mike
  12. Could I ask how you composed the trees outside? Was this done in photoshop? Great image by the way! The progression from the first to the last was great to see! Keep up the good work! -Mike
  13. Another face in the crowd. It's nice to see the faces of those who help me out so much. Thanks everyone!
  14. Sorry Jeff...I didn't realize where this was being posted. I meant for it to go in the last string of messages. I apologize! Mike
  15. First of all...Great Images! I was wondering what kind of texture you are using for the walls? Oh and I was wondering if you could explain the intesity parameter on the water...what does that do? Thanks! Mike aspiring cg artist
