  1. I have a light that I have animated the self illumination to go from 0 - 40000, when I render single frames it renders correctly but when I render a sequence the material does not animate, the light stays off the whole time. Any ideas why this is. I am using Max Design 2009, mental ray, and the material is a Arch and Design material. thanks
  2. you can also change the Samples per Pixel and Spatial Contrast without having an effecting the Final Gather saved file.
  3. PSD Manager does install on 9 and you need to go to the effect tab to choose your file name and PSD file type to save to a psd file. I am trying it now with not much success. I can render out he psd file but when I combine all the layer the image doesn't look like the final image. I have attached the two images comparing the two. If anyone knows if I am doing something wrong or if it just doesn't work please let me know the Good rendering is what it looks like straight from Max and Bad is what all the layers look like when they are combined in photoshop.
  4. MasterZap, That worked using FG & Hightlights only. thanks. I have attached the updated image.
  5. I am using Max 9 and have installed Sp1, Sp2, and the Productivity Booster. I will try tweaking the bed comforter material. thanks
  6. thanks, I will give some of these things a try. All the materials on the tray are A&D Materials. I increased the FG and on the comforter I removed the smooth modifier and added a turbo smooth modifier. and I removed the water bottle not very important. I will post the results when it is done... munz
  7. I am working on an animation and right now am rendering out every 50th frame with the read/write FG settings to save my FG solution. a couple of the frames have spots as shown on the image I attached. Does anyone know why this is happening and suggestions on how to fix it? thanks munz
  8. When you render out RPF files to combustion, do you render out at 8bit, 16th or 32 float. It seems like the highest I would want to go is 16 bit since AVI’s are only 8 bit and Quicktime is 8bit or 16 bit. I was wonder what others have done in the past.

    Grass roof

here is a grass roof done with hair and fur within 3ds max. Rendered fairly quickly...though the scene is very simple. I can't say it is better then the other techniques, but I think it looks nice.
  10. Jennifer O'conner has already started a user group, the Northern Illinois Animation User Group. It seems like everyone that is interested in a user group should come to the next meeting she sets up. I am sure she will post something here again next time there is a meeting. munz
  11. This new point is very true. The quality of your service is what the client is going to pay for and will have a direct effect on the price. Meaning the look of the final product, how quick you can deliver and your flexibility to adjust for the client need are some examples. As it was said earlier, there is no easy answer this. munz
  12. I think Kingoz's question is fair enough. As Maxer suggested, he should try to keep his fees inline with other artist in the UK region. It would help to know if others around him base there fees on a rate of 50/hr or 150/hr. I am not sure other would want to share that information, but it would be good to know. Munz
  13. thanks, I will give it a try. This is rendered with Scanline. I will try a few things to fix this. It doesn't matter for me for this project, but I would like to learn why it is happening to avoid it in the future. munz
  14. I am doing an animation where the floor material has a speckle bump map applied to it with a reflection. When I render this out as an animation, when the camera starts moving the floor becomes very noisy map to it. I have posted the animation here to see what I am talking about http://www.pulsestudio.net/video/video-animation.wmv does anyone know how to fix noise issues like this in animations. thanks munz
  15. I am trying to create a material that I will apply to a panel to make the panel a light, I need the panel to be bright, as well as if it could emmit light to the scene that would be great. thanks munz
