  1. Hi Hel, If you are planning to use this work as a portfolio piece to get a job then it would be best to create everything yourself. From an employers perspective, I dont like to see images laden with pre bought items as it doesnt give me a good sense of what artists can actually do. For one you are not choosing the best / most suitable object for the scene you are putting together, you are just using what is available and you will likely end up with a patchy looking image which doesnt look right. There are many facets to being a good artist and one of the fundamentals [imo] is still being able to model / texture & material well. Hope that helps, Rich
  2. Ha ha, yeh your right. If your are good then word gets around anyway and vice versa.
  3. The only thing I would like to see is one where you have to be good to join, good work and good service. Most of the others allow anyone on there so long as you have created an image of a building, what kudos do you get from that? You need something which is a real mark of quality and you can proudly wear that badge and even use it to win work. I would almost say that you should have client recommendations saying that you offer a good service as well as a good quality product. If you get crap or you get sloppy then you get removed. Integrity and standards. pikcells
  4. Cheers Deano, Who do I make the cheque out to? You can pick it up when you pop in ;-] Quite a bit to do on it yet so watch this space. Follow us on twitter for regular updates http://twitter.com/popsapp www.popsapp.com
  5. Hi Chaps, I think this might be a better solution, www.popsapp.com Its something that I have developed with some friends, we had a system written in house at my viz studio but have spent the last 7 months redeveloping it so that anyone can use it. Still in Beta stage but you can use it to manage arch viz projects and collaborate with other POPS users, upload, download and track files and create a custom ftp area for your clients to upload and download work. Totally geared up for our industry, in the workflow section you can create custom items and there are presets for Arch Viz stills and animations. The POPS Viewer is coming soon where you can review images and videos online with you client thus removing the need for emailing attachments. Would be great to hear what you think, Rich
  6. Looks like they have just contacted different companies, mainly French, and asked for any free drawings or cad models. Good idea really, puts everything in one place. http://pikcells.com
  7. Hi Paul, We would generally start by creating a cost for the modelling and texturing then provide a "bolt on" cost for each image or animation created once the model is complete. So £200 for creating the house model then £200 for creating the image. Each subsequent image is then also £200 if they want to add any more on. Some people will cost per image regardless of the extra time involved or saved on not having to create any extra geometry. All depends on how your workflow works and what you are used to. As you gather more experience you will start to develop some standard figures for different types of jobs, like houses and shopping complexes etc. Once you have agreed a set figure for the work, charge extras and amends at an hourly rate. Also worth remembering that images and animations are only worth what someone will pay for them so try to find out the going rate for the job you are pitching for. Rich http://pikcells.com
