  1. My current job is totally different to what I was doing for the past 27 years and yet it is very much going through similar challenges the archviz industry has been dealing with for many years. In particular what was going on 10 years ago with outsourcing work and the shift in critical roles over the years. Currently we are going through the same challenges and it has been helpful it offer insight from my past experience. I definitely believe I could do the same by returning to archviz.
  2. It's early days yet and the transition is going to be really slow. I am still tied up in my current job and it isn't going to be quick process to get out of. I will have to see this year out before I can make the change. One aspect I am concerned about is my age (48) and the mentality of "old dog, new tricks" that is prevalent in the arch viz industry. I have experienced it in the past to some degree. But that is just an other challenge to overcome.
  3. Good day people, I have been away for a few years. Thanks to the pandemic , I took the opportunity to step away from the industry and do something completely different. It has been the second most challenging thing I have ever done ( the first is raising two amazing children), and I have learnt so much about myself. After three years I am really missing the industry and am looking to get back in. I have been keeping an eye on what has been going on with great interest and am quite excited about the direction it's going. I thought it would be good to reacquaint myself and connect with old friends here and catch up on the inside gossip. Also to put some feelers out about future employment prospects. Looking forward to making things happen.
  4. Sadly the turmoil hit the company I was working for, a large multi-national architectural firm, really hard. Within a few hours many projects got put on hold indefiniterly. I got retrenched on Friday after 15 years at the company. This is going to hurt, but I am not going to let it get me down. I have already started the search for new oportunities, dusting off my portfolio and re-invigorating my freelancing. Good luck to everyoe out there , keep safe and healthy
  5. I have seen a few nominees and winners announce it on their Linkin feeds, a few on Instagram and here and there on the internet, I was just wondering, considering that its the CGARCHITECT awards, it would have at the very least be announced on CGARCHITECT ??? Not complaining, just wondering
  6. Thanks wonder why it wasn't annonced here? or did I miss it?
  7. Where or when can we see the finalist and winners of this years CGArchitect awards?
  8. this has become a very important strategy for us as we were in the same boat, loosing money big time due to constant changes causing "marketing" images to drift into "design development" images. Now we set a price with a clause that after X number of reviews any further changes will be quoted for based on an estimated time/cost frame to make such changes and only done with client approval before hand. After a bit of resistance (both by us and clients) it has proven to be very effective. It all starts with a clear conversation with the clients BEFORE any work starts.
  9. using an online farm only starts to make sense if you can offload the cost to the project budgets, but quickly falls over if doing many test renders are part of your workflow, especially for design development projects. Also you have to factor in the upload and download time/cost as well.
  10. there are many threads covering this, but in short, it depends, if you want to work in a studio the learning max is essential, but if you are going to work for yourself then use what ever works best for you.
  11. I'm not a revit power user at all so I may not be on the right path, but off the top of my head, look at the graphic override settings
  12. At a glance, no Revit cant export STEP files, it can export IFC which is intended for importing into Navisworks There is possibly a plug-in for revit to export STEP files but that may not be of use for you.
  13. https://www.maxon.net/en/news/maxon-news/article/easy-file-transfer-between-autodeskc-revitc-and-cinema-4d/ not sure if it is compatible with newer versions than Revit2016
  14. https://www.okino.com/solutions/c4d.htm they mention rvt files but then they talk about DWF files generated from Revit, so its a little confusing
  15. AFAIK Max is the only one to be able to import native Revit files, basically it does and FBX export behind the scenes.
