  1. So I have run into a problem and don't want to spend time cleaning 800+ materials. We have an in-house consultant that is looking to take our Anima crowds for a large project for use in his program (it doesn't need the animation part... just for stills). He is using Lumion. So he is requesting all the materials to be simple, clean standard materials exported as an FBX. The problem I'm finding with this process is Anima uses tons of ColorCorrects and Falloff Maps that they don't send the object with the material into his program. Is there a better workflow for this process? ... Or another option, is there a script that will take out ColorCorrects and take the top bitmap from a Falloff Map? Basically, put the raw Bitmap into the Diffuse slot. Thanks
  2. To Whom Can Help, I have been using the Substance material forum made and beta plug-in to add Substance materials into my 3ds max 2018 files for the last year or so. Yesterday, they came out with an official release which I quickly installed. The problem I'm now facing is... it didn't do anything to uninstall the old plug-in files. I got rid on the one erroring 3ds max as duplicate materials, but now I'm opening files with previous Substance materials and it comes up with critical/crash level errors. What files do I need to uninstall to make this work better from the previous installs to make it work again? I'm already assuming I probably need to relink the Substance material file. Thanks ahead. Chris
  3. Yeah... it will also be great to get it correct, for example for a walk-through rendering. I was already doing something similar to that for right now.
  4. Hey All, Got a real interesting problem... I am looking around on doing a one-way mirror vray material and finding nothing. Normally on my views, if I'm on the mirror side, I would just put a mirror material; and if I was on the viewable side, I would use a dark glass. Here's the problem, in my scene... you are standing on the mirrored side of the one-way mirror that extends 6ft across a 10ft opening... In the 4 foot opening there's a mirror on the wall reflecting views through the see-through side of the one-way mirror. So does anyone know how to accomplish a true one-way mirror material? Thanks ahead, Chris
  5. Hey All, I'm trying to get a list of cloud-based rendering farms. I have used a couple, Rebusfarm and RenderNation... but I was looking for something in the United States. The additional VAT and extra credit card charges are killing my budgets for personal projects (...on client projects, they pick up that bill). I just ran across RenderCore... but are there anyone else with 3DS Max and Vray? Thanks ahead, Chris
  6. I ran across these guys a few years ago at Siggraph. Similar to aXYZ. They are fully rigged with some standard captures... also cool is they give you the PSD of the texture so you can change the colors of clothes (or want to have less clothes). http://www.rocketbox.de (All they do) http://www.rocketbox-libraries.com/ (Purchase of their character models) Don't know it helps... I believe they do give one free (not 100%) to try.
  7. Also know your compositing skills (photoshop, after effects, etc.) is a plus... if you did something wrong, client doesn't like a specific material, architect is crazy... whatever it might be, this has made a big difference down the line. Yeah, 2 extra hours up front... but it will save you hour or days of additional work in the future. Most important though... being good at modeling. Remember (since this is CGArchitect), architects are never happy with a final result and want to change everything all the time... build models based on ease of editing in the future.
  8. Another good idea to do is to place a plan with an opaque map of a tree branch or tree outside the window so it doesn't look like its on a 50th floor of a building. Of course, if it is then no trees because I don't know of 50 story trees.
