  1. Leandro I have several Quadros and several ATI gamer cards. I see no difference among the cards when using 3D MAX. I am not an advanced user of 3D MAX. On SolidWORKS it is a different story, there is a perceived advantage over using the Quadro's. Not a big advantage to justify the Quadro's. I think the whole issue with the Quadro's is a big scam. On the Sager's I was no aware they had discontinued the laptop. That is a strange issue since that was their flagship. I am sure they will do something about the discontinued model. In the office we have had over 10 Sagers/Clevo and they have been good computers. You will be OK. I am sure you will be able to get parts from Clevo. Thanks Elliot
  2. Hello Leandro I have an earlier version of your Sager/Clevo with an earlier Quadro card. This is the 4th Sager/Clevo I have and I do like the laptop. Sager USA is OK. My laptop had an extended warranty and it went back to them the week the warranty expired and they fix it. I am thinking of upgrading to the model you bought with the Quadro 5010 but I was hesitant about this because I think the Quadro's are a scam. On the desktops I have various different Quadros (1500 to the 5000) and I have other desktops with ATI gamer cards. I think the gamers are better and they cost one third the price of a Quadro. NVidia customer service has not been able to help. I think the whole NVidia story about the special drivers is an absolute scam. My ATI video cards are the same as the Quadro or better. I appreciate your posting because it helps with my purchasing decision. The Sager tech support did tell me that if I wanted to spend the money on the Quadro it was OK with them but they did advice that the normal video card they offer performs the same as the Quadro. They had done the same advice on the previous laptop and opted to buy the Quadro just to find out they were correct. Thanks again for your posting. It is an invaluable piece of information for me. Regards Elliot
  3. Hello Ilya Sorry about your Quadro 4000. I remember we exchanged notes on this card like 8 months ago. I have had my Quadro 4000 for nearly 8 months. I have several computers with various videocards. My un-scientific conclusion is that the high end video gamers cards do basically the same thing as the Quadro 4000 for 40% of the cost. The only advantage I see is with Solid Works. They have software enabled the video drivers to work a little bit better with Solid Works. Good Luck Elliot
  4. Interesting thread. My experience is the same as Devin. They have slowed down but they are still faster than the regular drives.
  5. Good Morning This is an interesting thread. Two months ago I was ready to throw away my 2.5 years old laptop. Before doing that I replaced the hardrive with a SSD hardrive and changed Win XP for Windows 7. My boot up time went from 6 minutes to about 1 minute. My loading time on AutoCAD MEP 2012 went from 4 minutes to approximately 50 seconds. My battery time went from 45 minutes to about 2 hours. This is no a scientific test but as far as I am concerned it extended the life of my Laptop for perhaps another year or perhaps more. My laptop only has SATA II. The replacement laptop has SATA III. My little OCZ SSD is a SATA III operating at SATA II speeds. I am wondering if a replace my laptop with the new version.... 6 or 8 core, SATA III, Raid 0 and a 4gb Video Card......! WIll this improve all my times..... Presently I am happy with what I have.... My machine is running the new AutoCAD Building Design Suite Pro and all the programs are doing fine. A few days ago I saw my 13 year old son operating the laptop on Photoshop and my conclusion was that the next part I have to change is the "Operator". The laptop is OK for my age group.....! Hi hi hi hi Regards Elliot
  6. Hello Guys Here we are again. I remember we spent great part of Dec and Jan talking about these cards. Ilya.... I am afraid you are right, no matter how nice is Andrew about explaining the advantages of the Quadro so you don't feel like me, hi hi hi hi. Vu (Superkannes) was pounding on the three of us not to buy the Quadro 4000, we both did.... Hi hi hi Andrew and Vu were correct....! I am on one of my extended business trip. I have on this end an I-7 985 with the 4870 X2. There is no difference between this 250.00 card and the 780.00 card. In fact I think this card is slightly faster. Even the regular 4870 is about the same as the Quadro. I am a heavy user of Soldiworks, other than the Realview there is not much difference. With SW and the Realview there is a difference. However on my laptop I have a Quadro 1600 and it is basically the same as the Quadro 4000. Yes, we were taken.... Hi hi hi hi Me twice..... on the Quadro FX5800 and now the Quadro 4000. I while ago I was at the store and they have the new gamer card, I think it is the 6970 or 6950 they seem to be OK. If buy another card I will definitely buy a gamer card. Ilya.... you are not alone....! I was taken too...... hi hi hi The card works OK, just like the gamer card at almost 2.5 the amount of money. Just keep on going like I did and don't think too much about it. The card is OK. Regards to the 3 of you Elliot PD I am in the Caribbean.....
  7. Yesterday I called the PNY Quadro support group. They are very very very good people. They are following my case.....
  8. Andrew I removed the color plug-in just to test.... It did the same thing without the color plug-in. By the way.... the problem can be reproduced on the other machines too...! Elliot
  9. Andrew I tried to print the file with performance drivers on the printer or to the PDF...... it didn't print. Tried with the pluging with the drivers, it didn't print. Basically if used the performance drivers when I do a preview of the file to print I don't see it on the preview window. If it is not on the preview window it will not print. If the performance drivers are off it will show on the preview window and it will print. Elliot
  10. Andrew I follow your logical deductions and agree with you. It is only when using the performance drivers for AutoCAD obtained from the NVidia site. It will happen either with the printers or the Acrobat PDF. On this drawing I have some squares and rectangular figures where I used some hatch patterns. Even without the performance drivers the colored hatch figures do not print well, these figures will bleed the colors to much. During many years I have used a plug-in called MColor. This plug-in runs on top of AutoCAD. It prints beautiful. When using the performance drivers the MColor will also have the same issues. What I have been doing is that from within AutoCAD I am turning off the performance drivers when I need to print. When I removed the performance drivers the AutoCAD will run a little bit slower. Thanks Elliot
  11. Hello Andrew Yes it is when trying to print from AutoCAD 2011 MEP. With the AutoCAD performance drivers on the PRINT preview window only shows half of the image and it will only print half of the image. When I turn off the performance drivers the PLOT Preview window will show the correct image and it will print the correct image. This is using the plot command on AutoCAD..... You are right about these cards..... the ATI cards are suitable and less expensive. Even my own gamer cards I feel are better. This is now the same results and experience I had two years ago when I purchased that 5800FX. Then and now the differences between the gamer cards and the Quadro's are very small. The only advantage so far is the Realview in SolidWORKS. This bug with the AutoCAD drove me crazy for about 10 hours. After a while one of my clients suggested I tried to PDF the file from another computer..... and BINGO it worked fine. That's when I started turning off the performance drivers and was able to print the PDF from the primary desktop. Interesting....... I could have purchased a FirePro 7800 and a good ATI gamer card for the price of the Quadro....... Interesting...!!!! Now I am wondering about other issues I have been noticing..... Some people are reporting similar issues with their computers and I wonder if it is something to do with the videocard.... If I am going too fast on any of the softwares the computer goes into like a thinking mode and just freezes for 5 to 20 seconds with no explanation, then it resumes working OK. I have strip the machine to basically AutoCAD, 3DS Max and Solidworks and it is still doing the same...... Thanks Elliot
  12. Andrew and Chris I am definitely a fan of ATI....... Hi hi hi I have no problems with their cards.......!!!! As I said or tried to say on the previous posting, Trying to print a simple 2D drawing from AutoCAD MEP 2011 to a PDF on Adobe Acrobat 9 Pro Extended 3D,the darn expensive version that only survived one season since they discontinued it this year (it never worked as advertised on 3D).... On the preview window the only thing I get is about HALF of what I should see judging from the model. Upon printing into the PDF, I only get what I see on the preview screen, which is HALF of the image. I have the latest and greatest Drivers from NVidia for the Quatro 4000. On top of having the top driver I also have the AutoCAD and MAX performance drivers. If I go to the lower right bottom corner of the AutoCAD and turn off acceleration and adaptive degradation then it will show correctly on the preview window and it will print as well..... With those tabs in the check position the image will not print correctly. Upon removing just the performance drivers and leaving the parent drivers the image will print OK but then machine is not as fast. In fact it will be slower than my ATI 4870..... for $600.00 difference the Quadro should at least print well not to talk about the comparison with speed between the gamer and the expensive card. The ATI cards have never given me any problems....! Do you have any ideas....? Thanks Elliot
  13. Something very interesting happened. Since last night I have been trying to print to Acrobat 9 Pro Extended. On the screen I see what I want to print, when I do print preview HALF of my image gets lost. I removed the NVidia Autocad Drivers and everything is normal. Re-loaded the Autocad Performance drivers and the problem re-surface once again. Very Interesting..... without the performance drivers the card is just an ordinary videocard....... Certainly very interesting! My gamer videocards never gave me any problems and the performance is nearly identical to the Quadro 4000. Elliot
  14. Billy I use SolidWORKS...... I don't remember well all of the events..... in my case Realview started as a default when I placed the Quadro 4000. This was the first time I have ever seen the RealView in action. It really works good. Then I got all surprised and started wondering why my old laptop with a Quadro 1600 had never displayed RealView. Well.... I found there is an Icon you have to press to activate the RealView option in case the unit didn't default to RealView. Have you check that little Icon....? I know it sounds silly.... For two years I was mad that I couldn't see RealView. I took the laptop to my dealer and they advised me to change the laptop..... This week I discovered that Icon by accident.....! Elliot
  15. Superkames I will try your experiment tomorrow. It is about 2:50am here in Atlanta. This card is really a lot better than all the other cards we have used with SolidWORKS. Our workflow has definitely improved with this card. We are happy.....! The improvement is noticeable on SW. Regards Elliot
