1. A really good start, I for one would suggest adding a bump map to your floor to give it a bit more outline.
2. Hey guys just a quick update..... I've done a bit of research and waiting to hear back from a few vendors but things are looking great. I have a couple great presenters already lined up and I have a place in mind (I won't disclose yet because I'm still waiting to hear back from a few people). So far things are pretty cheap and I will update this thread once I have more concrete plans.
3. OOM errors are never fun, what are your hardware specs, render settings, etc...
4. I figured it out... For those who are interested, I did not export the scene correctly from sketchup, therefore materials and light were calculations were incorrect. Export your scene from sketch up as a 3ds max file.
5. Thanks Everyone for the replies, Jeff, first off that sounds fantastic and I can't wait to hear more and your previous efforts should have gotten better results. You put in alot of work into the project and i'm sorry it wasn't able to go through as planned. However the idea I have in mind takes a different approach and I should give a few more details. A bit about my background, I work for a Company that is a big player in the open source community and If its one thing that I learned out of my many years here is that sharing information shouldn't be profitable. There are lots of people that want to learn and are hungry for knowledge. While I have nothing against profitable company's that throw on events like SIGGRAPH, i think that we can get a conference together that will take on a more grass roots approach. I'm thinking we can throw on a barcamp style event (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BarCamp). If we can get enough sponsors to cover minimal costs of said event (space, materials, etc) and keep the budget low... very low while still getting the participation needed. We don't have to book a huge place just somewhere where we can meet and have some demonstrations and workshops. We can record the event and broadcast in online with very little cost. When it comes to things like this I think opensource style is the way to go, you will find people that are passionate and willing to just share knowledge and distinguish themselves in the community as they do in the forums. Also this "Event" doesn't have to take place in one location. Like bar-camp is can happen in multiple locations across the globe. I for one am willing to put in the time and effort to pull this off, I think the rewards for our community are there we can make this happen. Jeff, I would love to discuss this with you some more and share some of my ideas and get your thoughts. look in your inbox here shortly for more details. Thank you for your time everyone and if anyone is interested in being involved please shoot me a PM.
6. Thanks for the reply's I unchecked the skyportal check box and attached are my material settings. I don't think I will be able to upload the scene (my apologies in advance).
7. Hello Everyone, In the spirit of SiGGRAPH going on, I thought to myself we have enough people to have a conference specifically for Arch Viz. With a quick google search the last conference dedicated to Arch Viz was SIGGRAPH 2006!. So who would be interested in helping put together a conference? We could find an attractive location, get some speakers, sponsors, vendors.... etc. With enough people we can pull this off. Think about it, September 2012 Arch Viz Expo ( it would need a better name). We can get people from cgarchitect, Autodesk, Evermotion, Mint Viz, etc. to put on lectures and demo's. This could be awesome, who's with me!
8. Alright gents, suggestions taken: Switched to linear 1:1:1 Uploaded rendersettings Took out all interior lights re-added sun + sky with portals outside of windows (no glass in between outside and interior) Screenshots attached.
9. I didn't render this scene in mental ray, I was referring to a different scene. Sorry for the confusion
10. I have been stuck for days now. This is my first project with Vray and I can't seem to get even close to what I get with mentalray and arch-design materials. Here's a breakdown Vray 2.0 3ds max 2012 90 percent of materials are from vraymaterials.de Wood was done by me (results look great in mental ray with the same maps applied) Color mapping: Exponential, Dark 1, Burn 1 ,Gamma 2.2 (max settings were adjusted to 2.2 as well) Lighting with vray lights in the light fixtures. I had sun and sky but I took it out to reduce possibilities of culprits. Physical camera: fstop 4 SS 100 ISO 100 I have searched and searched these forums can't find something similar and I cant get my materials to be vibrant and photo-realistic as you usually see with vray. I feel like im missing something basic, something Im possibly overlooking... The weird thing is, when I render with a standard vray material as the override it looks like a decent base. I bet its a check box im not selecting somewhere
11. Hello Everyone, I'm not sure if this has been attempted before but I went ahead and created a IRC channel on freenode. For those of us who want to get involved the channel is #cgarchitect. The purpose is to ask questions and get answers and generally collaborate in a real time environment. If your not familar with IRC: A great client for windows http://xchat.org/ IRC server: http://freenode.net/ General IRC information http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Internet_Relay_Chat
12. Here is a new update with some of the items re-scaled and a little more post production work. Next I am going to work on reflections and other items to put in the scene.
13. I love adding color, but i want to keep the scene in a minimalistic style, however if you have and ideas I am open. As for the light tube I was thinking the same thing and I have already begun to fix it. Now I tried to create a nice bathrug with hair and fur but I ended up with terrible outputs. Any ways I will update with these suggestions in my next render. Thank you everyone.
14. Thank you for your input as well, As I said earlier the bathtub is supposed to look abnormally big ( i need to find a away to make that obvious to end viewer). The ideas for the reflections sound awesome, I will attempt those next. As for the basin on the counter that will be depicted in a few more camera angles that will be rendered out.
15. krimson2580 Thank you for the reply. Overall the bathtub is supposed to look thick and over-sized, Its the way the picture i'm trying to replicate depicts it. However you are correct on the water tap I will re-model it to make it look more slender and elegant. As for the pictures on my website, I am trying to move careers over into freelance arch viz artist and i needed a new website. So the photo's are just stock photos I used to test the javascript design. Overall I would like to get to that point of photorealistic arch viz artist, but as for now I am working to replace the photos one by one and hopefully with this project.
