1. Hello, I am currently using Max 2013 and Vray 2.0 and am trying to conquer Light Volumes using an mr Area Spot Light in this warehouse scene. There are architectural skylights on the roof and I am trying to get light volumes with Ray Cast Shadows to show through only the skylights in the roof. I keep getting results where the light goes through the entire roof as shown in the attached images. Does anyone know how to get the light rays to only go throught the architectural skylights in the roof? Each skylight has a Vray light (skyportal) with a multiplier of 1. There is also an skylight dome light outside the building for global illumination.
2. Does anyone know how to unfold a 3d model to create a 2d image in Revit? I'm trying to make a bent tube cushion for a piece of furniture. I drew the model in the mass editor as a bent tube. Now I would like to "unfold" or "flatten" the model so that I can make a pattern to cut out and sew. Is this possible to do in Revit? I tried exporting the model to Sketch up, but the 3d model didn't import, only a 2d image. Can Revit "flatten" the model?

3. I rendered the image using a vray camera (exposure off)and with the exposure box checked on (made a better difference). However, the sun doesn't shine in through the windows. I have used a vray sun, too. The saved rendering looks better than what I see on my screen. Also, there are red spots on the rendering as well. Got any more suggestions. I have printed the screens with all of the settings. Do you see anything that would fix the rendering? I have attached a screen image of all the vray settings that I have used.
4. Well, when I rendered the Vray file, in the environment settings I used the "no exposure control" setting. When I rendered it in Mental Ray, I used the "automatic exposure" control setting in the environment control panel.
5. Also, one last thing, I have been successful in inserting VRay interior lights and getting the interior to render. However, the problem that I am having is when I insert a Vray sun and environment and getting the interior to render with just natural light shining in through the windows. That is why I ask the question about somehow modifying the glass material. Just a thought. Let me know if you've had any success with your imported models. Thanks.
6. Actually, I haven't had any problems using mental ray after importing revit into 3ds max 2011. The problem is when I switch over to VRay. I have tried putting in a Vray sun which would shine through the windows into the interior space. That is the only light that I have put in the model. Is there possibly something that I should be adding or modifying to the materials? Like possibly adding a VRay subcomponent?
7. I think that this is an outstanding rendering. I have not been as successful with the vray lighting after bringing the model from Revit into 3ds max 2011 w/ vray 1.5 sp5. Here is what I'm getting. If I use Mental Ray, it's pretty good, but with Vray, not good at all. Do you have any suggestions on the settings to change the outcome?
8. here is a file with no exposure control. What is the setting to get the sunlight to show up? It is checked on in the Vray environment settings.
9. Man, I've tried just about every setting. The rendering has gotten worse. I have attached a rendering using the Mental Ray renderer along with the HSV setting in V-ray rendering. What can I do to get this thing looking good.In the environment, I've set it for Linear exposure control and the checkbox to Active.
10. I really appreciate your help. However, I am not able to find the settings that you refer to. I am using V-Ray 1.50 SP5 with 3d studio Max 2011. I could not find the check boxes for Affect shadows/Affect alpha. On the Global Swithces tab under the V-Ray tab, under Lighting, the checkbox for shadows is checked. I looked also in the material editor and couldn't find any checkboxes for those attributes either. Please let me know where you found these switches. Thanks a bunch. -Robert
11. Hello, I am having trouble with the latest VRay sp1.5. I have attatched a couple of examples that have given me trouble. For some reason, I can't get the window glass to become clear. Also, the exterior wall with the windows is black - it should be white paint. I have tried just about everything. There is an example showing the automatic exposue control on in the environment and with it set to "no exposure control" also. Any suggestions to a newbie would be greatly appreciated. I have put an exterior sun in the model, but can't seem to get it to show up outside. cummings9306
