  1. Try this. drag the background image into an empty slot in the material editor as instance. Then check if the mapping is set to screen? if yes, try setting it to something else and see if it helps? Alternative could you post your file?
  2. Its quite hard to figure out what may be affecting your render times by just looking at the render dialogue box. However, the first thing I would do is to untick "low thread priority" under the "settings" tab. Untick this if you are not running any other programs while rendering. are you able to post your file online?
  3. If increase the subdivs of the vray light reduces the noise, I would think there is no way around this. How many vray lights are visible in that image?
  4. The other way to flatten it is to apply a ffd 2x2 modifier to the whole shape and bring down everything
  5. As for the lighting, I would bring it lower to darken the shadow on the top, that should help make the product look less flat
  6. Hi all, sorry for the delayed response. I've been away for a business trip. The good news is that I solved the crashing while rendering issue. I opened up my casing and noticed the Asus logo on the motherboard was flashing red while rendering. A quick google shows that apparently there are 3 standard settings in the motherboard bios that controls the cpu, and it has been set to high performance by default. I basically just changed the setting to normal, ( Asus logo turned to blue ), rendered a 7 hour scene, no crashes ! Thank you all for information !
  7. Did you try rendering another scene in the same period? If it renders fine, that means there shouldn't be an issue with your hardware. Try isolating the problem in your current file by: 1.) deleting all the lights objects and render. 2.) applying a plain material on all objects and render. if either one of the steps show an increase in render time, that means the problem lies in one of the light objects, or material. I hope this would help
  8. Another way I would go about it, although more troublesome, is to : 1. apply a uvw map on the whole object. 2. have a different material ID assigned on each face. 4. apply a multi/sub-object material. 5. rotate the material manually in each sub-object material Although you have 8 panels, I think that you just need 4 different material ID for the object. (image attached) I hope this isn't too confusing.
  9. Hi all, I'm in the midst of uninstalling some software from my main hardisk. I noticed Autodesk DirectConnect 2013 and DirectConnect 2015 are currently taking up 1.05GB of hardisk space each. Does anyone know if it's safe to uninstall these softwares?
  10. Hi, are your referring to the temperature of my motherboard? I just did a google search. Apparently there is a setting on my motherboard that overclocks my cpu by default. Will have a look at that after work.
  11. or select by element-> select all elements->detach I do this sometimes when I fail to group a certain object.
  12. Hi guys, just some background information. I am an architectural visualizer working in Singapore. I bought a workstation about a year ago and used it from time to time for work. (rendering, Photoshop, the usual stuff). I have recently decided to take a break from my full-time job and do some freelance work from home. However, I came across some issue with vray and 3ds max crashing while handling jobs that takes over an hour to render. I would like to not only solve this issue. But also to prepare myself from other future problems. So getting into my main point, I would like to seek advice from experienced user, for comments on my PC inventory, whether there are any incompatibilities between software and hardware. I am slightly knowledgeable in the IT department thanks to google, so I will try my best to list out or the information needed. OS: Windows 7 Pro 64bit Softwares used: Photoshop CS5, 3dsmax 2014 with vray 2.4 below are the list of my PC hardware: Intel i7 3770 3.4GHZ 8MB Asus P8Z77 WS Leadtek Quadro 2000 1GB DDR5 PCI-E Kingston Hyper-X 12800/1600 (8GBx2) Samsung 840 Pro Series 128GB INT SSD WD Caviar Blue 500GB 3.5" 16MB Sata 3 Antec High Current Gamer M 620W Coolermaster Centrion 6 Thank you for taking your time to read
  13. Thank you! you should note that it's 3dsky.org. I went to 3dsky.com and thought that I've missed something haha
  14. Bed models with good textures. For furnitures like chairs, tables, and lightings, I would usually reverse search the image (chose by interior designers) using google images, and hopefully find the model on the furniture website. This often requires you to register on the website before you could download 3d files from their website.
