  1. Tony, thanx. Using Poser was not for the creation of objects but more for the animation of figures that were and are made easily available for that program. Using 3dMax to create different objects for those animations in poser was just something that was and still is quite enjoyable. But your answers to my inquiry has put that scaling issue to rest. (Finally) Really no biggie and I've been getting around it for quite awhile. As to the length of that post and others in the future, well, my apologies. I will definitly make a better effort at getting more to the point. If this one is also a bit too long for you or others....my apologies, again Peace. g
  2. Hello Folks. Been a while. Hope all are well. Hopefully someone in the group works with both 3dsMax and Poser ( a 3d Figure and Animation program) and has created either figures or objects in Max and imported them into Poser. My question(s) deal in the scaling of these .objs and how they (hugely) differ when they're imported from one program to the other. When I export a clothing .obj ( or anything else that I convert to an .obj that I'd want to modify in Max) from Poser and import it in Max the scale of that object is so small that you can't work with it in the Perspective View. When I create something in Max and export as an .obj and then import it into Poser the object is quite large compared to the scaling used in Poser. What I'm referencing my scale with are the grids that both programs use. The grids are quite similar but for the sizes of each- Poser 20X20 squares and Max with 14X14. Both of these programs give you scaling options ( (+ -)percentage's ) before the import process. My question (finally) is if there were any settings in Max to be able to adjust the size of the work area (grid size???) where they can be made to the same scale as Poser? Or visa versa? Maybe the answer is in the tweeking of the scaling numbers in the actual import/export dialog boxes and someone with a lot more experience would have no problems doing the math. If thats it then I sure would appreciate one of you people telling me that or anything else that might be of help. This is just a hobby for me and I've been enjoying working with these programs and these inconveniences that I get my self into. Sorry for the length of this. Thanx again for your time. Peace. g
  3. Tank You, Tank You. And a Happy 4th to you
  4. Greetings. Hope all of you are well. Been awhile, been away. As my title asks, is there any way to get any more then the 100 animation frames that Max starts you out with? Hope this is one of my typically dumb questions and I can get a simple answer:). Appreciate. Peace. gk
  5. Thank You both. Unfortunately I have the 2010 version. Hope that maybe they may have something similar. A good day to you both. Peace. gk PS: San Fran, Brisbane......Geeze, talk about reaching out and touching someone. Knowledge is good
  6. Greetings People. Been awhile, hope all are well. This may be a dumb question and I'll take the snickers and rolling of the eyes but being a new comer to Max I feel I'll ask it anywho. If I have a piece of clothing ( Lets say a tee shirt) and its been imported with its texture map, can I modify that map, meaning, are there any tools (paint) that will let me freehand, say, a stripe on a sleeve or perhaps a wide different color bottom hem....? Or, do I have to do it by going the UVMapper way and export a new texture map and work with it in PhoShop or Corel and then apply it to the clothing? I've been spending most of my time learning how to modify and create meshes and the Material editor hasn't been used as much, but it is really quite a powerful one. Appreciate any input on this. Thank you all, again. Peace. gk
  7. Thank You Ms. MerylN, I will definitly try that. It definitly sounds like the way to go. Really appreciate your help with this. PS: Yeah, the color changes was NOT the way to go. Desperation makes people do strange things like that. Thanx, again. Peace. gk
  8. Hello Folks. To finish off my title discription let me first tell you what I'm doing. I have this piece of clothing ( a Shirt ) in its mesh form and I want to prepare it for adding bones in Poser. In Poser there's a "Grouping Tool" that will let you select polygons and group them with a name ( hip, chest, lThigh.....etc,etc..). Although it does what it should it does have its limitations. I'm wondering if there's a way to do that in 3dmax. I've just began trying out a method where I'd select a group and then go into the Material Editor and give the group a different color and then "Hide" those selected polygons and then go and begin another group. Is this the way it's done? The thing is I'd like these groups to have the names of the bones ( hip, chest, etc....) when I export it out as an .obj. Hope you understand what I'm looking to do here. Appreciate any help. Thank You. P. gk
  9. Hi Fran. At first I went straight to the modifiers until I noticed it in the sub-ob mode. Appreciate your help. Things are starting to get alot clearer as I become familiar with all the tools, what they're called and where they're hiding. Slow, but all the help from you all is making it alot less painful. Thanx again. Peace. gk
  10. You've shown me how to "Tessellate, subdivide, etc.... but it seems that if I have a selected number of polygons that I'd want to perform this on it will only do the whole mesh. I'm probably missing something (so what else is new??) but is there a way to do just the selected polygons? Thanx. gk PS: Finding those different selection tools where you told me to look was great. Its made working soooo much easier. gk
  11. The first thing I have to say is how great all of you people have been with the help I've been getting to all of my inquieries. I've been to forums for many different programs and this one ranks up there. You all are making the learning of this pretty amazing program so much easier. Peace and good health to all. Thanx, again. gk
  12. Hello Again. Can someone please tell me if there are any other ways of selecting numerous Polygons ( vertices, edges ) than the usual "rectangle drag out" method? Any "paint" or "lasso" methods? And just one more thing: Are there any tools that will let you "quad divide" polygons other then the "Slice" method? Again, any help would be most appreciated. P. gk
  13. Yes Mr. Gruhn, I shall remember that. Thank You for that extra bit of info. Have a good one. P. gk
  14. Thank You, Thank You to you both. Yes, yes, it woiks perfectly. You guys are good. Have a good one. Peace. gk
  15. Greeting Folks. Hope all are well. Was wordering if it were possible to bend either a plane or a loooong box into a perfect circle. The reason I'm not going the " just create a tube" route is because I want to do a "panoramic" jpeg texture on the inside surface and I'd want to know the exact length (width) of the plane (or loooong box) so I can resize the image accurately. If anyone has another way of doing this I'd appreciate hearing it. Thanx. Peace. gk
