  1. Studio/Institution: Antoine Desjardins Client: Cordon Media Genre: Residential Exterior Software: 3DS Max - Mental Ray Website: http://www.coroflot.com/antoined Description: Here's a WIP shot of a downtown Toronto luxury town house. I'm waiting for a finish palette so in the meantime, I tried to work on the environment by isolating the subject with dense foliage. C&C are welcome.
  2. You mean that's the reference photo? I thought it was the final render also.
  3. This is really good stuff. Can't wait to see the final product. Try an strong ao pass > composite it over the beauty pass on multiply > paste your beauty pass into a new channel and use it to select all of the light areas in the image > select your ao layer and hit the delete key. I use this technique is to dirty up stuff that is not getting direct light. Also, make your tree's leaves more translucent and eliminate at least 2 of the leaf colors. I rarely see japanese maples with more than 3 main leaf colors. You could throw a couple browning leaves in the mix. Keep going.
  4. Check the scale of your doors. Are those 7'?
  5. Studio/Institution: Antoine Desjardins Genre: Commercial Exterior Software: 3DS Max | Mental Ray Website: http://www.coroflot.com/AntoineD Description: Hey everyone: I am testing mental ray's ghost_ctrl features and want to know more about irradiance particles. I was able to get true IBL (with shadows!) using this method. Unfortunately, all of my materials that had displacement or bump maps rendered flat. If anyone knows a good workflow for MR + IP for IBL, please share.
  6. Hello all: I was messing around with the ctrl ghost settings for 3dsmax 2011 and now I get an error message when I use Mental ray with mr sun/mr sky (see attached image). Does any one know how to solve this issue?
  7. I know it's been a while, but I wanted to thank Andrew and Aubrey. Your suggestions were great. I love the falloff shader! Its got that fuzzy look now
  8. Aubrey: That would be a nice touch, but I can't justify modeling that bad boy for this project... it would take way too long.
  9. You are right about the image being too cold. I've updated a few items and re-post produced the image. The final can be viewed in the main gallery. Thanks for your comments.

  11. Studio/Institution: Antoine Desjardins Client: private Genre: Residential Exterior Software: 3DS Max / Mental Ray Website: http://www.coroflot.com/antoined Description: Here's another... slightly more polished. I'm currently looking for ideas to dress the streetscape and balconies. My goal is to capture the essence of downtown Vancouver living. If you are from Vancouver or knowledgeable about the city's urban center, I'd love to get some ideas about how to dress up the street/sidewalk. C&C are welcome.
  12. Thanks guys. Meher: with regards to your comment, I think I overdid the DoF blur.. softening the image slightly. The blur might be a bit too dreamy and not realistic enough.

  14. Hey Aubrey! Thanks for the advice. I love the fact that once the animation has looped, it is stored in memory and runs really smooth. (Nice flyby btw). I will definately look into it. My only concern with flash is: will it work with apple mobile devices?
