  1. hello alex, everything works fine. Eventually i went for a dual E5-2640v3. here are the parts i used: dual xeon E5-2640v3 64gb XEON E-5 2640 v3 XEON E-5 2640 v3 Asus Z10PE-D8 WS Crucial CT16G4RFD4213 16 GB RDIMM - DDR4 PC4-17000 • CL=15 • Dual Ranked • x4 based • Registered • ECC • DDR4-2133 • 1.2V • 2048Meg x 72 Crucial CT16G4RFD4213 16 GB RDIMM Crucial CT16G4RFD4213 16 GB RDIMM Crucial CT16G4RFD4213 16 GB RDIMM Sapphire - ATI Radeon HD6450 PassifIB-138SK-B-II Samsung 850 PRO series 256 GB Samsung 224DB - Internal DVD writer - Black - Bulk (SH-224DB/BEBE) Fractal Design Define XL R2 Black Pearl (FD-CA-DEF-XL-R2-BL) NB-BlackSilent Pro 140mm pk1 NB-BlackSilent Pro 140mm pk1 NB-BlackSilent Pro 140mm pk1 Noctua NH-U14S Noctua NH-U14S Corsair AX860 (CP-9020044-EU) kind regards,
  2. My dual xeon renderslave arrived yesterday. The computerstore installed the extraction fans on the case at the top (see picture) and now it makes allot of noise compared to my workstation which has extraction only on the back. Juraj, you once posted a picture in this thread of you're dual xeon renderslave. So i supose you have experience in it. Do you think i could change the extraction to the back (so only intake in front and extraction in back). thanks
  3. Today I had a go with the corona renderer on an older mental ray project. In this case for even a better quality (less noise) corona was about 2 times faster. Had no hassle with the material convertor. Only changed mental ray daylight system to a hdri. Anyone else on the forum is using this renderer and planning on buying it when it releases?

  5. 2x16GB RDIM DDR4 (registered) at 2133 from crucial cost about 425 euro. crucial ballistix sport 4x8GB (non-registered) at 2400 cost about 432 euro. So it's even 7 euro's cheaper.
  6. Hello, Lately i've been surfing the web to configure the same workstation you're aiming at (besides the gpu rendering) http://forums.cgarchitect.com/76477-advice-needed-new-workstation-4.html#post395122 for a decent setup with good quality parts i came minimum 2500£.
  7. no it doesn't, only registered. clockspeed also limited to 2133 mhz.
  8. It seems the asus Z10PE-D8 WS only supports RDIMM and LRDIMM, no UDIMM so have to go for registered DDR4 anyhow.
  9. Hello Numerobis, Thanks for your thoughts. Sure i understand the better performance of 2 5960x nodes vs 1 dual xeon, it's clear to me. But like a posted earlier: i don't want 2 rendernodes (don't want the hassle and the mess since i have a home office). With the quality statement i made i was referring to the ws motherboard the pro ssd's the psu, coolers and so on, not the xeon processor as such. According to cinebench i can make an advantage of 18.16 vs 23.4 score for the extra cost of about 900 euro's (5960x vs dual 2640v3). The 10 core with the aprox. same clockspeed as the 2640 v3 is the 2660 v3 but it would cost about 900 euro's on top of that. Unfortunately my budget is limited. Also it would still beat my current dual xeon 5620. kind regards
  10. Hello Dimitris, Last post was written on my smartphone so it's a bit messy. The e5-2640 v3 has actually the same amount of cores and the same amount of clockspeed as the 2650 v2 (8 cores 2,6-3.4ghz). So i guess this would be a good choice. Adding a two rendernodes 5960x instead of one renderslave dual xeon isn't an option. Like to keep it simple and good quality. Good to hear it's a solid configuration. Now i can order with confidence. Thanks for the advice!
  11. The e5-2640v3 had 8 cores. So i guess thuis is the best choice for a renderslave. The 2 5960x nodes i'm nog interested in. Whats YMVV?
