  1. Haha, thanks, hopefully my renders will start to look more real than the stache : )
  2. Nice image, I like the fact that you've gone against the grain and put it in the shade. There's too many Clichés when it comes to this type of work and you've done well to avoid that.
  3. Beautiful images, not only well rendered but photographically brilliant. Well chosen subject matter and skillfull population of objects. Thanks for sharing these
  4. That is incredible, just stunning. I'm accepting it as a photo. Lovely contrasting mix of colour & surface. I'm struggling to find something odd so I'll go with the TV being to high on the wall, that's the best I can come up with.
  5. Thanks for all the input, it's a big help having such informed opinions. I've updated the original image so apologies for the comments describing an image no longer present. Hopefully I can get a job in the industry one day, in the meantime I'll just keep on making more, it's too much fun to stop : )
  6. Studio/Institution: Freelance Client: Home Project Genre: Residential Exterior Software: 3DSMax2011/Vray Website: http://paulshewan.com/ Description: Hi, this was my first architectural piece a few months ago, I recently went back to it, hoping to get some better results with HDR lighting in Vray and I'm really happy with the result. Massive thanks to http://www.hdrlabs.com/sibl/archive.html for putting up some lovely HDR images, these were a massive help in finding a suitable lighting source, especially for those of us trying to break into the industry who can't afford to buy these yet. I'm pretty happy with the image but I know some tidy post processing beyond my simple settings could take it up a few notches, any advice would be massively appreciated. Cheers.
  7. Thanks EZB, good point, I'm glad you like the grass, it took a lot of experimentation. It's a displacement map with a bit of Autograss to add some detail. I've nearly finished a dusk scene, it'll be on my website this evening, just trying to remember how to use Flash : )
  8. Thanks, I won't be too long before the night scene is finished, I just need to solve why my shadows and water are splotchy : )
  9. Thanks, Neko, I have a camera in place, I'll get one done after I've finished my night scene. Thanks for the extra ref by the way, it was a massive help : )
  10. Studio/Institution: Home Project Genre: Residential Exterior Software: 3DSMax/VRay Website: http://paulshewan.com/ Description: Here's my first VRay rendered architectural piece. I've been learning how to render for a few months now and this stunning house by Richard Neutra has made it easy to keep up the motivation as a home project. Thanks to those who've helped me with rendering issues and reference images. Any critique would be very welcome, sorry if my post processing looks a bit wonky, I'm still developing an eye for this stuff.
  11. Thanks Dude, it's the Standard MR Arch & Design material with a nice bump map, would you like the material settings & bump map? The image I posted has them faked in Photoshop and it shows as they're horribly warped on the right side of the pool. The caustics are now on the pool wall texture which looks way better. I'd like to have them working properly but I can't have caustics enables as it throws up a problem with no photon emitter, I can't figure it out. Check out this tutorial though...... http://mentalraytips.blogspot.com/2007/06/nice-water-with-miamaterial-arch.html
  12. Hey Cataco, thanks for the links. It's interesting seeing someone else's version of the house. I'm pleased to see that mine is more accurate : ) With all the images I found on the web and those that have been sent to me I've got a really solid ref collection. I've been working on my website recently so haven't done much on the house but the website is coming along nicely so here's some of my other stuff....... http://paulshewan.com/ No environments yet until I finish the gardening and furnishing. Kind regards Paul
  13. Hi, yeah, I'm using mental Ray, I'll investigate the material settings as I'm pretty sure I've looked at all other settings. Thanks for the advice
  14. Wow, I'm so jealous, you've actually experienced the 'feeling' of the property. I shall start saving the Max files as 'Kaufmann desert house' from now on. Well spotted with the bad rocks and mutant vegetable plants, the rocks have improved massively and the plants were dug up and burnt in case they spread to other foliage : ) I'd love to see a proper street view, I have some images taken from outside but not much to go on. I'm going to do some interior and dusk stuff later, I'm trying to furnish the house but it's hard to keep the 1946 finishes and go more modern with it. Thanks for your input.
  15. Studio/Institution: Unemployed Genre: Residential Exterior Software: 3DS Max 2011 Description: Hi, I've recently been made redundant after working 8 years as a vehicle artist in Video Games and thought I'd use my time off learning how to render in Max. I've always loved modern architecture & design so I thought I'd have a go at making something simple while learning how to use the tools. much of the scene has improved and won't be fully populated with foliage & furniture for a while but I'd appreciate any feedback. Unfortunately I had to Photoshop the pool caustics as Max throws up an error message when rendering with caustics enabled. Thanks
