  1. Haha, yeah I completely agree. I started out with a plan, making the chair the key feature in a pretty simple scene but in all honesty it just looked shit, and I didnt want to just ditch everything and start over. Thanks for your suggestions, I was thinking about replacing the picture frames with a shelf before I decided on the bike. Looks like I'm going to have to have a think about what i want to do. Cheers.
  2. The planks are individually modeled with random mapping coordinates using Mass Randomiser script. Thanks for the feedback Tom, I understand what you're saying and I'm not happy that you have made me question my concept . The picture frames are going, they were never really part of the image, they were just there to help balance everything a little more as a draft. So where can I put my bike??? I dont think it would work if the bike replaced the picture frames, I had intended on removing the frames and adding the bike in the currently empty space. Thanks heni30. I really like the chair white/cream but I can see why its a problem with the wall, I'd be more inclined to change the wall colour, and maybe darken the chair slightly.
  3. Some props Bike for the wall http://i.imgur.com/Sd9cnFR.jpg http://i.imgur.com/WUTrzRZ.jpg Textured the lamp, bit too rusty at the min so going to have to make a new map for it. http://i.imgur.com/81gq6A1.jpg
  4. didnt really like where this was heading, so spent a few days gathering some more reference material and tried a different approach. Still got a lot of props to add, side table, book, shelves etc but you get the idea.
  5. Thanks Craig. Completely agree with the table and props, though not sure what props I will use as yet. Was going to add a cord and plug socket for the lamp, just not got to it yet. Cheers for the feedback
  6. Update. Direct Link low quailty draft with some slight levels to get an idea where its heading.
  7. Studio/Institution: Personal Client: NA Genre: Residential Interior Software: 3ds max, VRay Website: http://danrodgers3d.com Description: Its been over a year since I've done any personal work, and its been driving me mad. So decided to set myself a target of getting one small(ish) project done every other month from now on, unless I start something a little bigger. This is the first, started a couple of weekends ago and had a bit of time today to get some lights pretty much finalized, though I'll have to see what the IES's on the left look like once it's textured. Its based on an image I found on archdaily A 2k version of the image can be found here Any feedback would be appreciated. Cheers
  8. 2d mapping does seem to remove the problem in that area, but makes the rest of the map look less defined. I could just detach those faces, but it would be nice to know what the actual problem is.
  9. I havent got the displacement map to hand atm, but its basically just a pure black and white checker(ish) pattern, masked from the original diffuse map. I have checked the normals, and they were fine. I also checked AO and diffuse passes which also looked fine other than i slightly darker area on the AO where the black border is. Like you say, I does look like its going inwards though. Or a really shitty optical illusion
  10. I am using the vraydisplacementmod on a wall, it works fine in some areas but looks pretty strange in others. The geometry is just a shelled plane, unwrapped and vraydisplacementmod on top. The problem only seems to happen when the brick is directly facing the camera any help would be great. see images for more info at 100% settings
  11. thanks for the link Dean, they do seem pretty cheap. I am studying Architectural Technology
  12. thanks for your advice, I should have mentioned that these are for my final year show university portfolio so once they are done there wont be (m)any changes. And money is pretty much non-existent at the min so investing in any sort of workstation or 'render box' is out of the question. If i can get 6 images for around £50 id be happy with that.
  13. In the next few weeks I am going to need some high quality renders that would take around 4-6 hours to complete on my home PC. Ideally I could do with keeping my computing power during that time and getting the final images quicker. I have read that if you only require still images then you dont really get much of the benefits of using a render farm, which doesn't really make sense to me but meh... So, is it actually worth the initial setup faff and money for 5/6 images rendered at either 1080 or 4K? I've looked around google and forums and rebusfarm seems to be one of the most referred to, so i was thinking about using them. Any thoughts on this subject for a render farm virgin???
  14. Thanks lot mate, for the comments and the links. I've visited Ronen Bekerman's website a few times but never heard of the others, so thanks. Just added a len flare and cropped the image a bit. Cant work out which i prefer !??
  15. Thanks a lot for your help Shahid, I've tried to address everything you mentioned above. I'm pretty much ready to call this render finished apart from the limestoney background building to the right of the image and i dont really know what to do about that
